I love Joe Strummer!
That's what my three year old daughter said in the car on the way home from pre-school the other day!

Screw you, Barney! :P

1. At least your daughter has some taste.
You really should give the Clash a try - you might be surprised!

7. She' s three! Of course she has a vicious shrieking yell
which she reserves only for the public - reserved specifically for nice coffee houses and reasonably priced restaurants!

As for the 3 chords - well, she is in Kindermusic!

FTR - Joe knew more than 3 chords - it was Paul who really couldn't play!

He's a much better painter than a bass player!

5. Play her that version of "Career Opportunities" from "Sandanista!"
Maybe she'll learn to sing it. That'd be cool.

8. She LOVES that song - everytime the kid starts singing she
yells at me to turn it up!

"that's enough now, I'm tired of singing..." :)

6. Give them the good stuff when they're young
my daughter is 10 now and loves Bob Marley and the Clash and the Violent Femmes. No Brittney spears in my house. She started learning how to play the drums, very exciting.

10. That just proves how useless kiddie music is!
I have some foreign language CD's that is sung by children, but that is the only "kiddie" music they have ever heard.

16. I actually don't play much Clash for her - mostly Mescaleros stuff
Streetcore and Global-a-Go-Go. She loves Coma Girl, Silver and Gold (her favorite - it tears me up) and Bhindi Bhagee.

26. I still have my record of "Free to be you and me"
and some older Sesame Street videos and tapes that i used play for my daughter. One Sesame street video in particular was wonderful, it's called "Put down the duckie", it's about Ernie and his yellow tubbie duck. It has a lot of cameos, my favorites are John candy and Paul Simon and LadySmith Black Mambazo. Also it has Patti Labelle as a torchy night club singer and Grover as a waiter in a mexican restaurant. The whole video is really good and pretty hilarious in many spots.

27. Oh, I love Sesame Street! That's a cool show - I especially
loved Melissa Etheridge singing the "u" song! And Robin Williams and all the other wonderful guest stars. It's that insipid Barney and those saccharine sweet kids that get me. Oh, and the Wiggles - WTF???

I just thought it was cute as hell that she blurted that out while I was driving...

Edited on Sat Nov-20-04 05:23 PM by chimpsrsmarter
that is a wonderful age. I'm lucky, Barney was a little too young for my daughter so she never really wayched. we were hard core sesame street people, 2x a day. I was really sad when she got to old for it. I dont know if you like the muppets but Muppets treasure Island is a great movie, my daughter watched that movie everyday for a year, my husband and i still know all the songs and the dialogue word for word.

31. Is your daughter at that age for Kidz Bop (I think that's the name)
or is she too old for that? What a horrible concept. They take pop tunes, some with questionable lyrics, and have kids sing them! I'm talking Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and others. Oh that is absolutely horrid music.

As for the muppets, we haven't really watched much. I think we have a Christmas tape, but I'm not certain. I will check out the Treasure Island movie, however. Oh, and we did see the Grouchland movie with Mandy Patankin...

33. She thinks that Kidzbop is...
"the worst elamo thing ever." She bums out when they redo a song she likes.
the Muppest Treasure Island has a great list of cameos, Jennifer Sunders and Billy Connelly, and tim Curry is one of the leads. She'll like i bet and so will you, it's got plenty in there for the parents.

Just kidding-- both are equally good IMHO. :)

30. She prefers the Pogues and the Mescaleros to the Clash - Again,
I keep the Clash exposure to a minimum - It can be a little harsh at times. Although she does like the more pop tunes: Train in Vain, Should I Stay or Should I Go and Lost in the Supermarket!

34. Yeah, best to keep 'em away from the hard stuff until older
Otherwise, you'll have her screaming "Tommy Gun" and "White Riot" to her Kindergarten classmates! :)

35. I don't think having her scream to little Timmy, "What's My Name?"
would go over very well, either. "But I believe in this and it's been tested by research...(well, you obviously know what comes next!)
