Indefinite suspensions for Piston Ben Wallace and Pacers Steven Jackson, Jermaine O'Neil, and RON ARTEST!

Gee, Ron, why don't you just retire?

3. who cares indeed.
we need to ignore the punks. i think marx was right, that religion (or sports) was the opiate of the masses.

5. Agreed
I love some sports, and enjoy most. But I've had it with the behavior of professional athletes. I've given sports up (OK, except for the baseball playoffs...I weakened for that).

10. Nice to lump all professional athletes based on the behavior of just a few
Most raise a family, dedicated hard worker for the team and community, they play hard and show good sportsmanship 100% of the time. Those players which I feel are the majority of all leagues are overshadowed by the behaviors of a few athletes.

15. Still, I'm personally turned off...
...and I've stopped supporting professional sports. It's a shame that the few are tarnishing sport, but that's how I feel. If others want to watch, that's fine.

17. I understand what your saying
But what about the behaviors of about 1,000+ Detroit Piston fans that night? I don't know it seems most are going after the Pacer players when the fans acted competely out of line, even the Pistons coach remarked on how many of the Pacers should an unbelievable effort to calm the situation and was disappointed with many of the fans as he should be.

19. Behavior of fans is another reason I don't support pro sports..
The fans were awful. There are tons of reasons for withdrawing support from professional sports (and some collegiate sports, too). Too bad, because I love sports.

4. Glad you're happy
I suppose you also think those idiot fans shouldn't be prosecuted. After all, gosh, they have the RIGHT to throw shit and attack players.

7. you are right....
the fans last night were the most despicable. the idea that the price of admission means you can behave like a criminal needs to be addressed before deaths occur here, like at European soccer matches.

11. I think the players should be suspended and prosecuted and
the fans should be prosecuted as well.

They were all wrong.

8. Here's the question: With or without pay ???
 If I was a gazillionaire athlete I wouldn't shed a tear at a suspension if I was still bringing home my bling bling every payday.

I'm suspecting more and more that for this generation of Asswads, its about the money, not the love of the game.

12. Can't say that about Ron Artest
He scored 24 points and 8 rebounds that game. He plays hard up and down the court, I love his focus and energy he brings to the game. As a Pacer fan I have seen Ron Artest excersize extreme self control and believe me he has been provoked before and he has not retaliated, much like last night. The whole situation was pretty much calm until the fans just had to throw a drink on the player.

23. That incident was almost 2 years ago
Edited on Sat Nov-20-04 08:22 PM by Champ
He broke a $100,000 video camera that was easily replaced, he has a multi-million dollar contract. Plus he served his three-game suspension. Rap album I'm with you on that one, but as a Pacer fan I would like to hear a Ron Artest album. They can win games without him, they obviously had to do it alot :)

I agree with the league's decision, I believe Stephen Jackson acted the most out of line though imo.

22. So how about they arrest the fans for starting the brawl?
This reminds me of that father and son who charged the umpire a year or two ago. A lot more people supported the players that time. Gee, I wonder why.

26. its not like a fan has never thrown anything at a player before
It was just a cup of beer or water. But Artest had his 'manhood' challenged and he had to fight back.

Apparently, because going home to his million-dollar house just wasn't good enough.

I hope he's kicked out of the NBA. This isn't comparable with fans jumping an umpire. This is like the umpire jumping the fans.

27. What would happen if a parent threw a cup at a Junior High Game?
Edited on Sun Nov-21-04 11:31 AM by Champ
(S)He would get arrested immediately, do the behaviors of fans and how they treat the players on the court excused because they're professional athletes and got million dollar homes?

28. i'm not saying it excuses the behavior of the fans
But the players HAVE to be held to a higher standard than a bunch of drunken fans are.
