1. If you look up astrology in the dictionary it says...
see quackery.

3. A bit of both
The horoscopes you read in the newspaper are so general, they are not to be taken seriously.

But I read one book about my sign and it was very interesting. It hit on a lot of points that were very true about me. I believed it.

8. Keep in mind, though,
that those points were very likely true about many other people, including those NOT born under the same sign as you.

12. True, true
I'm not saying the book is Bible but I found it interesting and my sign does fit me quite well even if, like you said, it could fit for most other people as well.

5. For me to believe in astrology,
I'd have to believe there were exactly 12 kinds of people, and that they were sorted into their kinds by month of birth. Uh, no. I know many people who share my zodiac sign who are nothing like me, each other, or what the characteristics of that sign are supposed to be.

18. A personal reading is based on a natal chart with...
...many more possibilities than 12.

Also, astrology is a tool. It's not a matter of belief. There's nothing to believe or disbelieve. It's an interactive set of metaphors that you can either appreciate or not appreciate, but saying you don't believe in astrology is like saying you don't believe in literature.

22. The problem is
that somey practitioners claim it as a science, which it manifestly is not, and use it to mislead gullible people, and even relieve them of their money.

And may I ask, if it's only to be taken as metaphor (which I have no trouble with - I only reject claims that astrology is accurate and empirically truthful), why bother with the natal charts to begin with? Poetry doesn't need pseudoscientific trappings.

But we Geminis are just naturally skeptical.

13. As a professional Astrologer I can,
after studying for over 35 years, attest that it's not quackery but in fact works accurately. Obviously "daily horoscopes" aren't going to be accurate. If you think that these daily horoscopes encompass this field of study you're totally mistaken. It's a science based on observation of the relationship of planetary alignments to your time and place of birth. It would take a 4 year course of study to get the basics needed and then further study for specialty areas -- these are currently available.

Sir Isaac Newton, one of the greatest scientists of all time, did not scorn astrology. He practised it himself, and when one of his friends asked him why be believed in such "rubbish", he replied, "Sir, I have studied the matter. You have not!"

15. I did an evil thing once (with a Customer)
I was at her house (I fix computers) and she asked me tons of questions about my life and then my exact birthdate and time (she was an Astrology Buff) I told her the wrong date, year, time and the whole 9 yards. She looked up my "Chart" and said "Amazing, from what you've told me, Your chart is just about 100 percent accurate"

I didn't have the heart to tell her I lied.

16. I think that question misses the point of astrology.
Astrology is like a personal mythology. Mythology is not truth, but it gets at the truth. Humans need stories, archetypes, metaphors, to understand their lives and their place in the universe. Astrology is a tool that some people use very well for this purpose. Like all tools, it is not well-used by everyone.
