What is a pentecoastal churcb?
What distinguishes it? Is it a type of evangelical church? Where did the word come from.

6. I attended to a Pentecostal church as a child every Sunday
and it is not for the faint of heart. The yell and scream and speak in tongues and talk of the second coming of Christ like it will be with the next sunrise and roll on the floors. It is a frightening experience for an kid trust me. After I grew up and out of the house I started to attend the southern Baptist church. Much more my speed and no, they do not discuss politics or try to influence anyone. Could be because the former county Demo chair attends there also

9. Me too...
The worst part though was the fact that services at my church were usually between two and three hours long...it was brutal.

16. Same for me.
My mom would stop and buy my brother and I a bunch of candy to help us make it through the extremely long service.

5. they speak in tongues
which is some kind of babbling event.

women aren't allowed to wear makeup, pants, or cut their hair and are supposed to be obedient.

they are anti-choice for women.
one that I know is a bigot.

i'm getting annoyed just writing this much about pentacostals.

8. Sam Kinneson
was a pentecostal minister.

They're fundamentalists that use "reival" techniques to get the congregation to be filled with the Holy Spirit, as were the original Disciples. Speaking in tounges is a trademark of pentacostals.

Approach with EXTREME CAUTION.

12. google's answer
“Pentecostal” is a descriptive name chosen by a particular protestant
Christian denomination better known as “The Assemblies of God”. The
“Pentecostal Church” takes its name from the Holy Bible’s record of
what occurred on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2:1-4. This group may be
either “Fundamentalist” or “Evangelical” (or both) in nature and in
discipline depending on its leadership and congregation and they are
frequently charismatic. Many Pentecostals believe in charismata
(special gifts bestowed on certain people by the Holy Spirit) such as
glossolalia (speaking in tongues), miracle working, prophesying,
healings, the "casting out of devils" (exorcism), hand-clapping,
shouting and being "slain in the Spirit," which are all observed with
great zeal and fervency. Some notable Pentecostals are Pat Robertson,
Jimmy Swaggart and Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

14. about those snake handlers
Within the ranks of those who identify themselves as Pentecostals, there are small sects which are known for more extreme or even bizarre views. Some practice handling of snakes, or others of a Unitarian theology insist that only those who speak with tongues can be saved.

18. For me it was the stuff nightmares are made of.
As a child I went with a friend to services at her church (Pentecostal). During the service the were beating a demon out of a man with a bible. I don't know if this represents all Pentecostals or just this one particular church. I do know I had nightmares for weeks after that.
