Gawd - why did they let people with horrible Southern accents teach Spanish in the public high schools here? I lurnt from Miss Peggy Hill, I swear. My Espanglish education was mucho mitad. ;-)

1. Pobrecito.
At least we have people whose 1A language is Spanish. Didn't help my Espanglish none, but at least I learned from gente who know.

4. I think my Spanish teachers' primary languages
were "white" and "trash." I'm just sayin'. And if anybody's offended by my reference to white trash, well, hell - pisser, innit?

2. Wow, that's bad.
Here in TX you can't help but be exposed to proper pronunciation constantly, so that helps. It wouldn't do to have the students speak more fluently than the teachers, either.

6. And there's no shortage here of fluent Spanish-speakers.
But the school system wants to have Peggy Hill teach the Spanish classes. It's like North Carolina's in a race with the rest of the South to see who can crank out the absolute stupidest people.

9. I had a roommate in college who had a Spanish TA who was Korean.
