1. Here's an idea
Go to www.refugeesinternational.org Click on donations. Give whatever you can, even if it is only a couple of bucks. These folks are advocates for refugees throughout the world. They are a small organization and appreciate any help they can get, and would appreciate a present!

7. Why? Because I'm all alone in the world.
I'm an only child, my parents are both dead, I've never been married, no kids (at least that I know of), and I haven't had a non-inflatable woman in my life in quite a while.

Most of the time, I really enjoy the freedom that my situation affords me, but during the holiday season, it can be a bit much.

Oh, well. Whatcha gonna do?

10. I wish I could do something I feel so bad.
this is only a suggestion, but how about volunteering at say the Salvation Army. Find out what kids really need help. And do something special for them. Gosh but there has to be someone for you to spend Christmas with. I'd invite you here but we plan to be at my folks. It would be a long drive too. No Aunts or Uncles either?

14. Gosh, NightTrain
You can buy *me* a present, if it'll make you feel better. :-)

Seriously, though, I'm sorry. No friends to get together with and maybe spend a few bucks on?

I always enjoy getting together with friends rather than family over the holidays. Family get-togethers are either boring or tense. Friends make me feel warm and happy.

Maybe we should gather a group of DUers in similar situations, who can draw names out of a hat and buy gifts for one another!

Seriously. I think we share a similar taste in music, and I'd love to send you a Christmas gift.

(I know that's not what you were saying, but what you said made me want to do it)

6. Don't they have those giving trees
in your area? Some are for children and others for people in nursing homes. They have cards that specify what the person needs or wants. You buy it, wrap it and put it back under the tree with the card so they know who it goes to.
Try bank lobbies.
Gee - lots of kids won't get any Christmas presents because their parents do not have the money. Lot of elderly have no one left.
No need to cry - give it a try.

8. You could also
contact a local community service agency and adopt a family, NightTrain. I did this with my kids one year when I was a struggling single parent. No batter how rough we may think we have it, there's always someone worse off, and it really feels great to make a difference for someone in need.

Holidays can be a downer, eh? Hang in there.

9. Adopt an "old folk" who has nobody.
I enjoy giving presents to friends more than family anyway. You don't have to give them something, but you do it cause you want to, whereas family is a obligation to give presents!

12. Look at it this way
The money you save by not buying anyone presents you can spend on yourself.
Actually, there are a lot of people out there in the same boat as you. Most of my relatives are dead or distant and only see them at weddings or funerals. My wife and I go out together and buy gifts before Xmas for each other. We know what we are getting....no surprises and no exchanges. We buy maybe $20 worth of gag gifts to exchange and the large ticket items we pick out together.

My siblings and I are buying a "Milk Menagerie" through Heifer -- a heifer, two goats, and a water buffalo.

We're all kind of excited about it.

15. Ever think about being a Big Brother?
It's not romantic, but it'll help fill the empty space in your heart.

You could also volunteer at the local soup kitchen over the holidays, and see the faces of those who truly know what it is to be thankful.

I'm sorry you feel lonely...

25. I'm with you!
It sucks to be alone on the holidays.

I do spend time at the nursing home. I buy gifts for needy children, like others suggested. I am spending Christmas day serving food at the shelter.

However at the end of the day, I am still alone. It sucks.

28. Here's what I've done every Christmas since 1998....
I'm a volunteer D.J. at the University of Connecticut's radio station. Every year since 1998, I've done a fill-in on Christmas Day (or night) so some D.J. with a family can get the holiday off. The main thing my fill-ins have had in common is that I've never played a holiday song on any of them!

Why? Because I assume that just because it's Christmas Day, not everybody wants to hear exclusively Yuletide music, particularly not that white-bread shit they play on the so-called "Lite Rock" stations. So I offer an alternative to Manheim Steamroller. :puke:

That this year, Christmas falls on a Saturday, which is when my regular show broadcasts. True to form, I plan to air the SOUL EXPRESS HOLIDAY SPECIAL on December 18th, and will play my regular mix of classic R&B tunes on the holiday itself.

For information on the music I play on my show, check out its website: www.soulexpressradio.com
