So When did "Alice's Restaurant" become a Thanksgiving tradition?
Seems every year the local classic rock station makes a fuss over it as if it was the Thanksgiving equivalent to "It's a Wonderful Life"....

6. I believe you're right
First time I heard it played was in my high school's newspaper office the day before Thanksgiving, 1967.
It brings back such memories.

"I went over to the sergeant, said, "Sergeant, you got a lot a damn gall to ask me if I've rehabilitated myself, I mean, I mean, I mean that just, I'm sittin' here on the bench, I mean I'm sittin' here on the Group W bench 'cause you want to know if I'm moral enough join the army, burn women, kids, houses and villages after bein' a litterbug." He looked at me and said, "Kid, we don't like your kind, and we're gonna send you fingerprints off to Washington."

8. Love it and all of Arlo's Music
so much in fact we named our Quaker Parrot after him. He's 11 months old now and I'm trying to get time to sing Alice"s Restaurant. One of the best anti war movement songs of the 60's

11. It was Two years ago on Thanksgiving...
...damn! I think we could all just recite the whole damn thing from memory.

That's what comes of hearing it 2-20 times in a Thanksgiving weekend for 30+ years. :)

that transcends time and space. Like, if you were to time-travel back to 1856 they'd be signing Alice's Restaurant on Thanksgiving Day, which is doubly odd 'cause Thanksgiving didn't become an official holiday in the U.S. until 1863, but it's true. Would I lie?

13. Alice's Restaurant is absolutely the perfect song to describe exactly
how screwed up this country was back in the 60s. The only difference now is that they'll take anyone into the military. Obviously.

Now don't anyone harp on me because of what I said. You have to admit that they have a lot of dysfunctionals in the military nowdays. Everytime I hear one who says "I support this war. I support pResident bush* and we went in for the right reasons" blah, blah, blah, I know that they're probably dealing with either an idiot or a psychopath.

14. At a concert, Arlo was doing "Alice" with his son, and he whispered to
Abe, "Where I am in the story?" and Abe answered he didn't know. Arlo whispered back with a smile, "When I was your age, I knew all the words to MY father's songs . . . "

Happy Thanksgiving, Arlo!

15. I met Arlo once while doing my official duties.
He couldn't figure out how I knew some of his friends who had him do a concert in an old hippie art colony. Officially I work in LE.
