I don't know what to do with my Jewfro!!!

For those of you that don't know what a Jewfro is, I refer you to the Urban Dictionary:

jewfro

noun

1. a large circular dome of curly hair possessed by a jew. the jewish form of afro.

2. hairstyle worn by people of jewish descent. It consists of curly hair and is often large.

I don't know what to do with my hair! It's so thick and puffy that when it grows long, as it is now, I get a jewfro. But I don't look good with really short hair. I need a new hairstyle that accommodates my stubborn hair. :cry:

Jewfro, a huge one in the late 60's early 70's. Now it is an ex Jewfro. You know the type, bald on the top, fro on the sides. Sad, really very sad.

I have the same type of hair. Try a layered cut about to the nape of your neck. Also, don't wash it every day. Washing makes it poofy, the oils from your scalp help to calm it down.

They make nifty little appliances for the hair to iron it straight. Go to a good beauty shop and have them teach you. Or find a woman with similar hair (ought to be dozens at your Temple) and ask her advice.

He never called it a "Jewfro" though. He must never had heard the term, because I am CERTAIN he would have been highly amused by it and would have used it all the time.

I liked it. It suited him.

There is a salon in Clayton, MO (a suburb of St Louis) that has a couple stylists who have been trained by the curly girl author.

A former co-worker also suggested that I go to a salon where they employ a black hairstylist or someone used to working on black hair because they would also be familiar with curly hair.

There IS hope!
