2. One is bound to feel...
... resentful and angry if one is always the most ignorant person in any random sample of the population....

9. matching hate with hate?
Your comment there seems kinda hateful.
I would guess that lots of them are hurt, angry, and scared. Of course, the angry part seems like a chicken and egg - does hatefulness make you angry, or does anger make you hateful?
Also do they really hate Clinton, liberals, gays, and Arabs any more than we hate Bush, fascists, bigots, and Pentecostals?
Certainly, they think WE are ignorant, as this response I got from Linda Chavez' office shows:
"Congratulations….we receive literally thousands of email each week, and yours was by far the most ignorant one I’ve seen. Do yourself a favor and actually read the book next time - before you go and embarrass yourself again, moron."

I sent that person a couple more emails, explaining how he could have handled it better, and finally got this answer:

"Excellent points and advise . And yes, I didn’t get enough sleep. But I bet Carolina, not the Pats.

I appreciate the email and thanks for writing."

Not that we became friends, but perhaps found out there is no need to hate each other. Part of it may just be ruthlessness in tactics, because a street-fighter will beat a sportsman almost every time. Against those who say that we need to match their dirty tricks, I think we need to pound the message that the public should not tolerate nastiness from either candidates or media pundits. We should not try to match their hate with our own. It is like the saying goes: "never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level where they beat you with experience."
Of course, that may give some people an excuse not to reply to this post.

20. Hateful my ass...
... look at the surveys done. These people are wrong in their beliefs about the facts most of the time. That, sir or madam, is ignorance. Have a look at the latest PIPA survey on Bush supporters vs. Kerry supporters on their knowledge of the facts.

3. The media
Tonight I watched the trashing of Dan Rather on the Chris Matthews show and saw it as just one more plank of the media's platform of refusing to report the actual news. Think of the Cable networks giving credibility to the Swift boat veterans and even now saying that they don't know if what they are saying is true or not. Maybe they shouldn't have the right to free airwaves until the fairness doctrine is back in place

4. I picked the last option, and am always amazed at the irony of
freepers saying that liberals are "elitist" when they are the ones who are intolerant of differences and we seek eqaulity and truth. how is that elitist??

10. All news is media
Edited on Wed Nov-24-04 04:31 AM by imenja
Media is plural. Television is only one medium. Print, radio, and the internet are other media.
So where else would one get news? Neighborhood gossip?

I agree that many of the most prominant right wingers are hateful, but they don't have a corner on the market.

11. Jealousy.
Remember the kids who used to bully you in elementary school because you got better grades?

They didn't grow out of it in high school or college, you just stopped having classes with them.

And now they're running the country.

21. "They are in love with the notion that they are better then others"
but I don't think they believe it. If one is superior in some way, and one is confident in one's superiority, one doesn't need to resort to slamming one's "inferiors."

And now "one" doesn't look like a word.

24. Definitely!
fear-based all the way. They need guns. Lots of guns. Guns in their cars. Guns by the bed. Guns in their desks at work. And fear of all "the others"...foreigners, intellectuals, the opposite sex, the same sex...and, mostly, people who read.
Everything in their lives is based on fear. Life is full of danger. So, all behavior is modified by all those monsters lurking to get them.
These are not happy, secure people. These are people scared to death of life.

23. Deep down
they know their position is wrong/contradictory. That's why they are ALWAYS on the defensive. Since logic won't support their position, they resort to hate.
