I had a fabulous time in Toronto last week.
I just got back from Toronto last night...I spent some exceptional quality time, as usual, with my man, Doug.

Toronto is so similar to Chicago, where I live. I consider Toronto my second home.

I hope all is well with all of you.

1. How is it there?
I've never been there and I've been told I should go. But I LOVE Montreal and from what I've heard, Toronto sounds too "Americanized" for me.

3. You are right - Montreal kicks Toronto's ASS -
in terms of culture, nightlife, food, the Arts, etc...

There are reasons that Toronto is known as "HogTown," that have very little to do with four legged swine.

16. No comparison. Montreal is second.

Comparing Toronto and Montreal is like comparing New York City and Ithica, New York.

There's some kind of strange need among Montrealers to try to compete with Toronto ever since Montreal went from being the biggest city in Canada to much smaller than Toronto.

But let's see, Toronto has more residents from different countries than any other city on the planet according to the U.N. One in four immigrants to Canada live in Toronto.

As the largest city in Canada with the largest immigrant population, it's restaurants and culture easily compete with Montreal.

Toronto and Vancouver are known as Hollywood North for all the films made in each. The Toronto Film Festival is second only to Cannes.

Toronto also has the largest Gay community in the country, and has the largest Gay Pride celebration in North America each year.

Oh, and Toronto still has Major League Baseball. Montrealers can go see their team - in Washington, DC.

17. I've spent equal amounts of time in both cities
My late husband grew up in Kingston, which is pretty much in between.

Toronto has a lot of fun things about it (I just love Kensington Market), but I admit I'm more of a Montreal gal at heart. I haven't been back there for a long time, but I love it there, and I even get to practice my French. :D

4. Yaaayyyy! Welcome back Terry. You were missed!
I love Toronto. We used to stay at the Inn on the Park. A couple of times we have taken the train from Windsor and that is fun. Glad you had a great time and made it back safely. :hi:

14. You and Doug would get along famously.
Both of you are very much interested in music...his knowledge of musical theater is almost encyclopedic. Doug has written some musicals and considers Sondheim a mentor.

Yes, had you been there...it would have been perfect.

9. Been there twice
The first time was with the family when I was 10. They ended up leaving me at a McDonald's right outside of the city and drove to Niagara without me. I was a little lost..to say the least. Before they crossed the border they realized I wasn't in another of the cars as they thought and called the McDonald's. I had made it back to there by then and I got back to the U.S. safe and ummm...sound.
The second time was many years later and it is a great city to be in.

Nope, no mullet wig. I wonder if they stole that story about my experience...I should sue.

10. My husband has been twice on business.
He likes it well enough. I'd like to visit, but I don't know how I can manage that right now. I don't think I'd mind moving up there.

15. Weirdly enough, they don't sound like the MacKenzie brothers....
The Canadians that I encountered actually sounded somewhat American...

Thanks, my friend.

21. To get the true effect -
of the 'Canadian' Language, you need to visit Newfoundland. Can't understand a word they say. People in TO have very normal accents, as do most of the rest of Canada. My partner grew up in St.Cathrines which is just N. of Niagara Falls and he sounds completely like an American.
