Dear DU geniuses,

How do you capture those very short, looping videos that some of you post on DU?

I right clicked, but I couldn't find a way to copy.

I have had success uploading some of them (posted on DU) to photobucket.

If you've got the time, I've got the problem: I've posted the link on my blog, but I would prefer posting the actual video.

Here's the video link:

I hope I'm not too stupid to understand your answers!

1. Different formats mean different capturing techniques...

...that particular one is Macromedia Flash. I capture them by looking in my browser's cache...they're always there after viewing, at least in Internet Explorer. It's harder with Mozilla browsers.

Just seach your computer for *.swf after viewing. Sort by date and find the newest. Drag and drop to your browser for viewing.

EDIT: Drag the SWF file out of the cache folder to another folder or your desktop if you want to keep it.

2. OK, where's my browser's cache folder?
I searched in windows explorer and found several *.swf files (in the time frame when I viewed the video), but a warning popped up each time and said that I could damage my operating system if I tried to open those files.

BTW, I'm using ME and Netscape.

3. Don't double click on the *.SWF files
Just drag the one with the latest date to your desktop and then drag and drop it on your browser.

I haven't used 98/ME in so long, I forget exactly where the cache is. In XP, it's like:

C:\Documents and Settings\(your user name)\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\KT88VU21\

Didn't work.

I am such a media loser!

5. You can't click it to open it...
...you must drag and drop it on your browser.

The reason you can't click it is that most computers don't associate a program with SWF files. Your computer can't figure out which program to use.

You can drag and drop the SWF file directly on an open browser window, though.
