Dog That Always Wanted To Be A Mother Nurses 2 Kittens (PIC)

<snip>

EDWARDSBURG -- When Jean and Bill Schirf purchased her dog Geisha Girl at a pet shop in 1991, they didn't intend for her to become a mother.

They never had the Shih Tzu spayed. But they also made sure she was protected from the obvious.

But Geisha apparently wanted children because when she would go into false labor over the years after having been in heat, she'd take her stuffed toy dog, curl around it in her basket and baby it for a week or two, Jean said.

Two weeks ago, that all changed for Geisha Girl.

And it couldn't have been more of a surprise to the Schirfs when Jean placed two new-found kittens at Geisha Girl's feet in the kitchen.

Now, Geisha has milk. The two kittens, Dilly (for Dillon) and Dally (for Dallas), are nursing. And Jean and Bill have two new adorable little "grandkittens."

4. I had a Poodle that would mother our kittens
We lived in the country when I was a kid. And I had this female poodle dog. I never noticed the false prego or anything like that. Of course, I was just a kid. LOL!

Then one day she found our cats kittens and just took over. Mommy would let her. They "shared" Mommy duties. She would baby site. Mommy would come by and "feed."

One time the litter was birthed out doors. We didn't even know where. But the poodle did. She would whine to "do her thing" and come back with a kitten in her mouth. Luckly, the poodle showed us where it belonged and we gave it back to Mommy. Yes, Mommy would just let the dog come and take one away. She would have major fits to go out and go straight to the kittens. When we let her in, we put our hands about 3 inches off the floor so we could catch the kitten as she came in with it. Tee Hee...

We finaly gave up and brought the kittens and Mommy in side. We thought Mommy would get upset if we moved them. She didn't mind. I think was she liked the most was the free babysetting.
