has Dolly Parton lost her mind?
last night I was flipping through the channels, and I think it was some kind of awards show. They introduced Dolly and a new song she wrote, I think it was called "For God and Country". Starts out with some father who had a son in Iraq who makes it home safe, then a mother whose son died and she has a dream about him meeting Jesus. Then she goes on about how God sacrificed his son for us, so now WE have to sacrifice OUR sons in Iraq, just like God did for us.
It was the sickest, most bizarre thing I have ever heard.

5. Jesus said: Forgive them, for they know not what they do. This includes
Dolly and all the other religious zealots who have sprung up recently.. combining God and country as if God cares about manmade borders.

I just feel sorry for them for being so short sighted.

6. Yes, she's drank the koolaid ...
Even many Hollywood figures are "jumping on the Patriots' bandwagon" for fear they may be left out on fame and fortune. It's tragic but enlightening. You find many things about a person's true VALUES as the war drums beat on. Prepare for more disappointments but at least the true character of these public persons is revealed in times of crisis.

13. Ok, I'll play ... Example #1 Ron Silver stumping for the NeoCons;
Example #2 That morality role model, Gene Simmons (Kiss) exuberantly supporting bush.

Positive Examples: The courage and strength of "The Dixie Chicks" to not cave into the radical right warmonger rednecks.

My greatest respect is to "The Boss" Bruce Springstein who selflessly gave his time and talent to the John Kerry Presidential Campaign.

I'm no celebrity but I gave numerous hours of my time in support of John Kerry for President. I think that I, and many other volunteers, may have something in common with "The Boss": When more and more of our brave young men and women are senselessly sent to kill and die for a war based on a lie ... WE (those who campaigned hard for Kerry) tried our best to prevent the needless bloodshed. That's small consolation but my conscious demanded that I try ... and never quit.

12. Don't miss Dolly in the worst movie of all time
I saw commercial for it the other day. I cannot remember the name. It is a cheesy remake of "It's A Wonderful Life" with Dolly playing the part of the apprentice angel. It is bloody awful.

14. The title of the CD is "For God and Country"
Edited on Wed Nov-24-04 10:49 AM by wtmusic
Was the song "Welcome Home"?

http://countrymusic.about.com/library/blforgodandcountryrev.htm

Allah (I mean Jesus) says we must send our soldiers to heaven where they can live again:

With great antisipation he waited at the door
His only son was due from over seas
For months now he'd been waitin
Since he'd gone off to war and his eyes were
Filled with tears of great relief

Chorus:
Welcome home son
His loving arms held open
And his heart so full of love
Welcome home son
I've been prayin and been hopin
And i never did give up
I knew that you'd return to me
The place where you were meant to be
Rest now for youve been gone to long.
I heard him say as they embraced
I've waited so long for this day
My son my very own welcome home

Well a dreary rain is fallin
Were another soldier fell
While a mother wakes up
Cryin in the night
She thought she heard him calling
In that moment she could tell
Her only son had passed into the light

Welcome home son
His loving arms held open
And his heart so full of love
Welcome home son as
Jesus stood their glowing
Their hand reached out and touched
I knew that you'd return to me
The place that you were meant to be
Rest now for youve been gone to long.
I heard him say as they embraced
I've waited so long for this day
My son my very own welcome home

I think of all families who have lost a darlin one
I think how jesus died for all our sins
And i think how much god loves us to
Send his only son to live and die and then to live again

Welcome home son i hope to hear god saying when its my time to go
Welcome home while the angel band is playing and god comes to
Claim my soul the angels will be singing and joy bells
Will be ringing rejoicing ill shout and sing along.
When their are no more wars to fight
And where all children of the light when the father
And the son say welcome home..
Welcome home ...welcome home.
Welcome home

19. To Summarize the Above ...
HYPE! HYPE! HYPE!

BUT NO DELIVERY. :(

I love my country and I served on Active Duty. However, I disdain glorifying ANYTHING about war ... especially when it's mixed in with religious connotations.

Dangerous stuff ... handle with care.

you hate the song *because* you love your country.

28. Yah, cute ... but seriously
The way I presently think and feel, on the most simplistic level, can be summed up by Don Henley's tune, "The End of Innocence"

Remember when the days were long
And rolled beneath a deep blue sky
Didn't have a care in the world
With mommy and daddy standin' by
But "happily ever after" fails
And we've been poisoned by these fairy tales
The lawyers dwell on small details
Since daddy had to fly

But I know a place where we can go
That's still untouched by men
We'll sit and watch the clouds roll by
And the tall grass wave in the wind
You can lay your head back on the ground
And let your hair fall all around me
Offer up your best defense
But this is the end
This is the end of the innocence

O' beautiful, for spacious skies
But now those skies are threatening
They're beating plowshares into swords
For this tired old man that we elected king
Armchair warriors often fail
And we've been poisoned by these fairy tales
The lawyers clean up all details
Since daddy had to lie

But I know a place where we can go
And wash away this sin
We'll sit and watch the clouds roll by
And the tall grass wave in the wind
Just lay your head back on the ground
And let your hair spill all around me
Offer up your best defense
But this is the end
This is the end of the innocence

Who knows how long this will last
Now we've come so far, so fast
But, somewhere back there in the dust
That same small town in each of us
I need to remember this
So baby give me just one kiss
And let me take a long last look
Before we say goodbye

Just lay your head back on the ground
And let your hair fall all around me
Offer up your best defense
But this is the end
This is the end of the innocence

27. GULP...
...I actually started a thread about embarrassing physical attractions yesterday, and she was the one who inspired it.

I'm more embarrassed than ever, now.

That being said, whenever I've heard her speak she always comes across as awfully sweet...just maybe not all that bright.

30. "Well, you know she’s not gonna go back home."
"I turned on the radio and I heard a song by Dolly Parton.
And she was singing:
Oh! I feel so sad! I feel so bad!
I left my mom and I left my dad.
And I just want to go home now.
I just want to go back in my Tennessee mountain home now.

Well, you know she’s not gonna go back home.
And I know she’s not gonna go back home.
And she knows she’s never gonna go back there.
And I just want to know who’s gonna go and walk her dog."

From Walk the Dog, by Laurie Anderson
