WTF Nabisco???
See these?

I need these wagers to make the crust for my cheesecake, only these will do. the cheesecake is caramel pecan and the bitter sweet of these cookies give the cheesecake a good balance. I've looked everywhere for them this year with no luck. I will now have to use Nilla wafers or graham crackers instead and it will not be the same. My local supermarkets say they don't carry them anymore because they only sell at holiday times but they carry all the other Nabisco stuff. "If they only sell during holidays then why not just order them for the season?" "Well, i guess we could." said the supermarket manager. It's too late this year.:(

1. Like canned pumpkin and cranberry sauce are year-round commodities?
'Seasonal'. That's weak. Good luck with the substitutes.

5. I'm sorry
:pals: And, just to be sure, did you ASK at all of the stores possible, or just look around? One of our stores carries those in the baking department, while the others carry them in the cookie/cracker department. Does that mean that anything that is ever used in a baked recipe should be in the baking goods aisle?

good luck...

9. I went to all the stores in my area and looked and asked
checked the cookie, cracker and baking aisle with no luck. I'm think maybe i can call Nabisco and mybe they will send me some. I called my sister in Boston and she said she would have mailed them to me if she had known. this seems to be a regional problem.

3. My friend has problem getting special foods for her holidays too
Kosher stuff that they don't carry enough of when her holidays come around. I think they finally have the stores ordering more at the right times of year - but it took her to badger them to get it done.

Ah common sense sometimes takes a holiday too.

7. Ah, seasonal foods
My dad has been freaking out because Trader Joe's apparently isn't going to carry their frozen escargots en brioche this holiday season. He's been up there asking and asking, and now he's going to contact the manufacturer directly and have a case sent to him, if possible.

My dad's a little crazy. :D

RE: Can't find Nabisco Famous Chocolate wafers

Crisp Chocolate Wafers

4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large egg whites
3/4 cup Dutch process (alkalized) cocoa powder
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
More sugar for finishing the cookies

2 cookie sheets or jelly roll pans lined with parchment or foil

Combine butter, sugars and vanilla in the bowl of an electric mixer and beat on medium speed until light, about 5 minutes, scraping bowl and beaters occasionally. Beat in the egg whites, one at a time, beating smooth after each addition.

While the mixture is beating, sift the cocoa with the flour and salt. Stop mixer, scrape down bowl and beaters and add dry ingredients. Mix on low speed until incorporated.

Scrape the dough out onto a piece of plastic wrap. Cover with another piece of wrap and press the dough into a rough disk. Refrigerate the dough until it is firm -- several hours or overnight.

About 20 minutes before you intend to bake the cookies, set a rack at the middle level of the oven and preheat to 350 degrees.

Divide the dough into 3 parts and roll one at a time on a lightly floured work surface into a 6-inch square. Cut the dough with a fluted or plain round cutter into nine 2-inch cookies and place them on the prepared pan. Continue with the remaining dough. After rolling all the dough, press the scraps back together and make about 9 more cookies. Pierce the cookies several times with a fork and sprinkle them lightly with granulated sugar.

Bake the cookies about 20 minutes, until slightly puffed and firm. Cool the cookies on the pan.

Serve with any creamy or plain dessert, or ice cream. They're also great by themselves. Storage suggestion: Keep the cookies between layers of waxed paper in an air-tight tin or plastic container. recipe by Nick Malgieri

24. Genaurdi's Food Store sells them year round....
I don't know if you have one near you though. we're in NJ, and i think they are just a Mid Atlantic region store. They are owned by Safeway, so maybe you have one of those.

Hope it helps.
