Let's talk internet security.
I know this might be more appropriate for the computer forum but thought this might be better with a wider audience. (It can be moved if need be.)

This week my virus software alerted me to a trojan virus. I have managed to get it quarantined but I am unable to delete the file from the quarantine folder. I will work more on that soon. For the time being I am afraid to do internet banking or anything of a sensitive nature.

I have heard people in the tech industry warn against internet banking, saying it has too many holes in the system. I have had it for a couple of years with no problem but I am wondering if I need to rethink things. What about paying credit cards on line where they take a draft from your checking account? I find that really convenient and a way to have proof of date of payment (can't hold that one until it is too late). I would never use my debit card on line but I do shop with a credit card, thinking that I have more recourse with that and it would not endanger my own account (credit is another thing if it got murky). So what do you feel is safe to do on line? If you have an account with a bank you are in their computer system whether you do internet banking or not, so are you at risk just having an account with a bank?

1. There is a new forum
that deals with these issues and I found the people there very informed and helpful.

3. well
to delete the virus, start in safe mode (hit f8 while starting up right away) and then run a scan and it should take it off. As to the security, some viruses have been stealing information. Actually there was just one recently that was pretty bad, you'll have to excuse my brainfart because I can't remember the name though.

The best advice is just to keep clean: use a virus scanner, keep it updated, keep up to date with the windows updates, and have a firewall running.

I personally feel safe with my information online. I think it's more safe than using my pin number at an ATM in public.
