Any ideas for XMAS gifts to my 92 year old Repug Grandma?
I gave her a subscription to The American Prospect last year, and I asked her if she liked it, and she said "I'm a republican, I don't look at it."

So I'm wondering what to give her. She's very rich, she doesn't NEED anything. I was thinking maybe a Streisand CD or something. Something that is clearly pro-progressive, but something she could enjoy. (She's too old to convert, I'm quite sure)

Any ideas?

21. Totally.
And if you're lucky, your grandma will get hooked. X-Box is a cruel mistress.

4. I'd certainly be happy just to give her something
she'd really enjoy. Actually, you could send her flowers and she'd probably just love it. You may want to make a political point, but this might be the last Christmas she gets to enjoy.

7. I DO want her to enjoy it.
But if it makes a subtle political point, nothing wrong with that. And if the money goes to something good, even better.

5. A music box!
Weird, I know, but I'm researching the 'net(s) for one for my granddaughter. Bet granny would get just as big a kick out of one, if you could find the right one.

8. A gift of time
Help her organize the photos, or sort the keepsakes. Cook her a meal from a family recipe. I doubt she wants stuff but she wants your time.

9. Tea basket or.....
....a coffee basket, or a hot chocolate basket, or a gourmet/speciality food basket. Just put the term "gift basket" into Google. Wide selection out there.

If you have a mind to you might even assemble a basket with a collection/combo of her favorites.

18. She's very wealthy. No worries there for her.
If I ever inherit anything from her, I'll have to give a chunk to moveon.org!

13. Support the troops
Donate in her name to some charity that gets the soldiers in Iraq what they really want-- like phone cards, with which they can phone home for the holidays (suggestion via Steve Gilliard's blog). Or maybe plate armor for their Humvees, which the Halliburton Administration still hasn't kept its promise to supply.

15. Ask your mother for some old family pictures, and make a photo collage
for her.. and an inexpensive taperecorder, with a request of her to "tell you about her life".. Some day you will enjoy playing the tapes, and if her memory is good, she will have some interesting tales to tell..

At 92, her politics should not matter a lot... She's a link to your past... and who knows, if she's well off, she may play a part in your future too :)

16. Howza bout some eco-friendly hand/body lotion?
Burt's Bees has some nice stuff like Milk and Honey Body lotion, Peppermint soap, Buttermilk lotion (all kinda old-fashiony sounding whih could appeal plus packaged in mostly recycled material)
In lotsa stores like Wholefoods Market
http://www1.burtsbees.com

OR
Working for Change has a whole shopping section where you can find loads of options: bird feeding places, organic coffee but barnes&Noble too. Money goes to progressive causes.

23. I probably shouldn't have used the word "repug"
She's a republican, but not a freeper mouth-breather. And she is my sweet old Grandma.

I certainly don't think of her primarily as my REPUG Grandma.

She's just Grandma.

27. Call a spade a spade
Rethug, repig. they can be sweet old ladies, or pudgy 250 pound balding white millionaires in size 44 pants driving hummers while smoking cigars, spouting bible passages and antigay propoganda out loudspeakers, and polishing their semiautomatic rifles.

the point? all republicans are the same inside, they just can be different on the outside.

28. Get her something
that comes from a non-profit org. She is probably too old to change her politics, as you said, so you don't even have to let her know that it is a progressive gift.
