Why are dogs obsessed with cat food?
I don't own pets that aren't fish anymore (developed allergies, not enough time to devote to them), but I used to own cats and dogs. The dogs were always obsessed with the cat's food. Why? Anyone else notice this? And is cat food actually bad for dogs?

2. I Think It's The Smell Of It
Every time we let our dogs in the house, they make a bee line for Della's dish. The smell of fish by-products must drive them crazy.

Cats need higher protein than dogs. Remember they are carnivores while dogs are omnivores. Dogs love that extra protein and meat in cat food.

5. Not my dogs, unfortunately.
I'd heard of this before and thought I'd try out my fussy eaters with some nice 'Felix', but they treated it with the contempt that they do most pet food. Oh for some dogs with proper dog appetites.:eyes:

6. It's the high fat content, which is also why it's bad for them.
Cats need a much higher fat ratio in their food than dogs do. A bite once in a while won't kill a dog, but a steady diet of it can lead to lots of different health problems.

7. Because it tastes like ass
Actually it's because liver is the primary ingredient in most cat foods and cat treats, even whisker lickin's shrimp and tuna flavor! Just read the label.

Because it smells like the *true* object of their desire: cat poop.

9. Because they hate the stupid cats.
They know it's meant for the cats, since they get scolded if they eat it but the cats are allowed to eat it. Therefore, if they eat the cat's food the cats will starve to death and be gone once and for all.

11. My cats eat the dog food
and the dogs eat the cat food, so it balances out. They seem fine, so I guess nutritionally it's okay.

13. Tastes better. Ask your vet--cat food has more protein/nutrients.
It's fine (but expensive) for your dog to eat the cat food, but not vice versa.

18. I was going to ask that
Rather than why do dogs like cat food, I wonder why they like cat shit? My neighbor's dog likes to revisit where she "went" the next day and eat it! Yikes!

22. Got my dog to stop eating cat food
by smuggling a pill in it. Now she won't eat cat food anymore. Or dog food, either, after I sneaked the pill in there. Now my husband's cooking her chicken. Spoiled brat!

28. My dog favors horse hoof trimmings
when the blacksmith's truck shows up, he makes a bee-line to the barn and sits and waits for the blacksmith to throw him the clippings. You've never smelled stink until you have sniffed a horse hoof trimming - kind of a rotten, cheesy smell. Far worse than any cat crap!
