We in Canada celebrated our Thanksgiving a month ago, so I'd just like to wish you all the best on this Thanksgiving eve. Please remember: "pink, undercooked turkey = violent pilgrim revolt!" {Unless, of course, you planned it that way, to have the house cleared of in-laws by 7pm.)
Regarding the "other thing". As one who's never felt the need to wax militaristic most of my life, could someone please explain to me: WHO THE HELL NAMES THESE THINGS? Is "Operation Plymouth Rock" some sort of patriotic tie-in with the holiday? Are these campaigns named by a military committee, or is it the Pentagon/White House?
A week ago, I felt the need to dust off my old copy of "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich : A History of Nazi Germany" and give it another read - for obvious reasons. I'm halfway through, and nowhere have I found anything analogous to any sort of military event in Nazi Germany (ie. "Operation Swaying Beer Stein" in relation to some campaign that took place around "Oktober Fest".)
Again, who names these things? Is there a protocol? Or is it just whipped up like a bowl of mashed freedom potatoes?
If I sound cynical, I am. But I'd still like to know.
Again, enjoy your Thanksgiving!!!
