I keep thinking about the lines of the Niemoller's poem (First they came for the Jews; and I did not speak out, because I was not a Jew. Then they came for the Communists...). And, I keep thinking that the modern version must begin:

First they came for the homosexuals
and I did not speak out
because I was not gay.
Then they came for the Moslems
and I did not speak out
because I was not Moslem.

In case anyone doesn't see the connection between discrimination against homosexuals and civil rights -- remember that the same Christian Dominionists who believe that homosexuality should be punished by death also believe that slavery is acceptable in Christian countries (slavery is in the Bible after all).

found that they were likeable chaps, so we stayed for dinner, and played cards until 2 AM. Fritz was too drunk to drive home so he slept on the couch.

He has been better groomed since then, and seems to have developed more sophisticated tastes in food and wine. He was always quieter and more intellectual than the rest of us. Maybe it is just a phase, but it has lasted a long time. Mom said he's out of the closet, but I've seen his closet and it is way too small for him to be in in the first place.
