Am I the only American who does not stuff the turkey?
Greasy, salty breading just sits in my stomach like a ball. My ex called me un-american for not stuffing my turkey.

2. Sometimes stuff with celery, onion and carrots but
Edited on Wed Nov-24-04 07:52 PM by Rowdyboy
never stuffing or dressing. We cook that separately.

Stuffing inside a bird can easily cause food poisoning.

3. I don't stuff
Stuffed stuffing is dangerous to eat due to salmonella. It's also soggy and unappetizing IMO.

4. Nope, I don't stuff it either.
My mom never stuffed the turkey, so I don't stuff the turkey. I always worried that the turkey blood would get into the stuffing and make it nasty. Plus, it takes longer to cook a stuffed bird!

7. Of course not. I have never stuffed the turkey.
My mother never stuffs the turkey, and her mother never stuffed it either.

I do make a delicious, fluffy (not heavy or wet) stuffing that is baked and served on the side. It never EVER sees the inside of a bird carcass.

8. Alton Brown says you should never stuff the turkey!
He is the wizard of Good Eats, after all. Put some onions, celery, lemon, etc., in the cavity to impart flavor to the bird. Make a pan of dressing on the side, if you like.

Stuffing the bird leads to sogginess & possible salmonella.

9. I only cook a turkey breast so the family
doesn't fight over the white meat...no place for stuffing.

I cook two different kinds of stuffing separately and that works just fine. I don't want food poisoning anyway...blah!

10. I don't stuff it anymore.
I make the dressing separately. The bird will go on the grill and slow cook at approx. midnight CST.

12. Nope. Don't stuff, either.
Stove top or homemade.

Cavity of bird gets veggies.

14. We used to, because we used to go over to my grandma's for T-day
But I'm a vegetarian so I never ate it, and there's only so much grease soaked bread four to six other people can consume...

So needless to say, we're skipping stuffing the turkey this year. We must be commies!

:)

18. No, We don't stuff it either.
Stove Top is perfectly acceptable, better actually in my opinion than "real" stuffing.

19. try deboning it
(as in take out the skeletal system, not castration-an aside for any smart-arsed comments to follow)
then stuff it (not intended as a personal attack). The bird-the turkey-put stuffing in the turkey-it cooks faster, you can leave the stuffing in and ya slice it like meatloaf.
