Twice in one week, I got to write a note on freepers' cars
Edited on Wed Nov-24-04 08:23 PM by HypnoToad
The store has a couple of parking spaces meant SOLELY for those who pick up or drop off prescriptions. (for a quick drop-off, nothing more.)

I'd been burned in the past as I'd many errands and cars always sat there. I had asked the pharmacist one day what could be done. They said 'nothing, unfortunately'.

Well, I sure as hell won't sit back.

I'd counted the cars there during my trips this week. Went to the counter to drop off or get my prescrips, on the relevant occasions.

I get back to the car, note which cars were still there. One time I moved to a different spot and waited 10 minutes. No change...

So I wrote and put on their windshields, as relevant: "Please don't abuse these parking spots. That is selfish, un-Christian, and anti-American. Thank you for being more thoughtful next time."

No keying. No scratches. No immaturity. Just a polite note that's 100% truthful, that will make them thrice as angry as a result.

Passive-aggressive activism. I :loveya: it! :D

3. I'll be more than happy to. But
only if I see 'em.

And if there's a security camera, too bad. They had seen that the people misusing the spaces were misusing them. All I did was politely inform them of their pompous self-aggrondizing selfishness.

5. Not effective:
Besides, if there are cameras present...

No, keying is wrong and psychological intrepidity is far more interesting than physical toddlery. A polite but stinging note is eminently more effective than a key mark. I'd be angry too.

Anyway, a key mark they'll either touch up or not notice.

6. Heh. I went down there, opened the trunk, and then realized...

that I had changed my mind at the grocer's as the cauliflower looked a wee bit brown. I didn't buy them, got home, packed the car, got in, thought I had, posted on DU, got the facts, went back down, and then DUH. :wow:

10. Thought you bought them?

Look out, you are probably in need of government mandated psychiatric pharmaceutical care!

17. Left the ground beef in the trunk
for quite a few days before tracking down the smell...

On a brighter note, on Sunday I put a peace symbol on a bumper sticker that said "I pray and I vote." I knew they would agree with me that peace is an important prayer request!

7. I think it's pretty clever, Hypno.
Make them feel multiply guilty. They should feel guilty, there's nothing wrong with helping the universal will out a little.

Some people can be affected this way, though I wouldn't make a bet on how many. If it's only a few, it's still something!

8. Nice and polite
Yeah, that gets results. Like my phone call and my note to the cable company that has decided I would enjoy listening to Christian radio on my schedule channel, saying I realize they can't please everyone but gospel music and preaching are not the best choice if they wish to keep their non-religious customers and it's unwelcome in my home and stuff like that. Guess what? The station hasn't been changed.

Yeah, I know - get Dish Network. :)

9. I'd hire you as my kids' nanny.......
....... but they're grown up.

So, you go around leaving notes for people who behave boorishly about parking spaces?

And you label them "un-Christian and anti-American"?

Even though you don't know who they are or what their stories are.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe someone with a health problem is having trouble in the store, or there was a problem with a prescription?

If I knew someone who was sitting and watching parking spaces and timing them, I'd try to get that person some assistance.

11. Rare
You got to admit. Such an "event" would be rare. However, people abusing isn't.

What do you think the first clue would be that it's a "freepers" auto? Hmmmm....

13. Exactly. While I did admit it is technically possible, it is rare - and
abuse is far, far more consistent. Especially in today's America.

And 'freeper' generally refers to the stupid chrome fish along with those delightful repuke bumper stickers. That only makes me feel less guilty about the prospect of making a mistake. Especially when freepers blame hippies and the 'feel good' generation for America's ruin when it's the corporate feel-good greedy degenerates who merely gab about morals and ethics who are to blame.

14. Did you know that
"the stupid chrome fish" refers to a Jehovahs' Witness. Can you say "discrimination"? Can you say "wrongheaded stereotyping"?

You know, beating up on someone's car because of .............

Never mind. This is just too dumb.

12. YES I DO. And here's why - it'll answer your questions, all of them:
Edited on Wed Nov-24-04 09:38 PM by HypnoToad
If such people are so decrepit, they can get a HANDICAP STICKER OR PLATE. They are closer to the doors.

Prescription drop-off/pick-up is located very close to the pharmacy entrance, NOT THE MAIN ENTRANCE.

EVERY time I've been at the pharmacy, I noted I was THE ONLY ONE THERE. No customers were around, all 4 of the pharm clerks were doddering around. How is that supposed to be a person going in for a problem with their prescription?

One couple I'd seen came out with 6 big bags of groceries. Didn't seem feeble to me, neither of them. It's amazing how quickly they packed up their goodies and left, too.

And I have yet to see one person who is afflicted with something coming back to their vehicle. And if they had such a health problem, they should have a handicap sticker or license plate. Again, closer to the doors.

So if I've mistaken one or two of them, then maybe they can do the same thing when THEY see miscreants at the prescription drop-off point. So much the better.

If the person dropping off the prescrip had to go pee, well then I chucked the stone at the wrong person.

And, again, those particular spots are for drop-offs only or pick-ups only. The sign made it clear. And I have a problem with people who abuse it. You go in, drop it off, vamoose. Youdon't park, drop off the prescrip, spend 20 minutes buying whateveritissoIcanavoidmorestupidstereotypesthrownatme, going to pick it up and leave. I did ask the pharms the intent of the signs.

Unless they had to pee, there aren't too many excuses for their sort of selfish behavior. There are just as many good responses to your admittedly good points.

I know: I'll get a mini-cam, do an Andy Rooney, and covertly show who is abusing the system and who isn't. I know whistleblowers are damned in America, but screw that. Some people need to take a stand instead of making excuses. And if I did wrongfully accuse somebody, well I'm sure they'll find a way to get my number - in which case I will justifiably apologize unconditionally.

And, yes, there are times when I don't pull such a stunt. If I saw other people in the prescrip area, then I wouldn't. The chance exists that they are genuine. But if nobody is at the counter when I get there and back, it's far more likely somebody is abusing the spot than anything else. Not always, but most likely. And don't forget, the prescrip parking area is not as convenient for people as the handicap areas. There's a BIG difference.

Or, maybe as 50,000 people have told me in the past, I just need to get laid.

15. Your first line is so wrongheaded and intolerant
Edited on Wed Nov-24-04 09:48 PM by OldLeftieLawyer
I guess you've never lived alone and had the flu and had to go pick up your scrips by yourself.

You're using too many words to defend your indefensible, intolerant, hopelessly controlling position.

18. I think what HypnoToad did was amazing, as one who is always sick
and picking up prescriptions every other week. These are the same people who cannot walk their cart across the lot to the cart corral. The just wedge them up against the front of my car. The rules don't apply to them. Call me controlling...I call it a call for politeness. Try it sometime. :hi:
