World History group!
I've seen this mentioned before, but it doesn't seem like the group was ever setup...would anyone want to join a world history group? There is an American history group, but nothing as of yet for the history of other countries.

This could be the mission statement:

The mission of the DU World History Group is to discuss and debate the histories of various countries and the interactions of these countries within the international system.

Um, yeah, I know it sucks, feel free to change it.

We need 10 members with a star to reply to this thread saying they are in, so pleeeeease reply....thanks.

4. world history ok along with US too ?

With fascism on the march it would be a good thing to discuss "The Plot to Sieze the White House" by Jules Archer
http://www.eclectica.org/v1n1/reviews/wharton_plot.html

Looks like GW Bush's family had a stake in this original coup d'etat. Not any commies or pinkos. Just a Seven Days in May rightwingnut plot. If it weren't for a guy USMC Gen Smedley D. Butler, we'd have lost Roosevelt as president. Today they don't have to use guns, just rigged elections !

""The conspirators included: John Davis (former Democratic presidential
candidate in 1924), Al Smith, mayor of New York, J.P. Morgan, heir to the
Singer empire, Chairman of GM,
Prescott Bush and George Herbert Walker,
members of the American Liberty League (whose membership list is partially
given in the sources), General Douglas MacArthur (many of the
ultra-rightists wanted MacArthur as the "man on a white horse" to rally the
WWI vets and bonus marchers but he was so hated by the vets due to his
killing and wounding of veterans in the bonus marches of 1933 --against the
orders of Hoover his commander in chief). What is also interesting is that
the plans for how the veterans would be used to take and hold the White
House included: strikebreaking; acts of sabotage to create conditions for
martial law and suppressions of civil liberties; enforcers against people of
conscience; etc--sound familiar?""

For openers, try the video from the History Channel called "The Plot to
> Overthrow FDR" available for $19.95 and I urge all teachers and activists
to
> get your own copy and circulate or show it. Next, there is "The Plot to
> Seize the White House", now out of print but still available, by Jules
> Archer. From there, you can get sources of contemporary (at the time)
> sources about the nautre of the Congressional investigation, allegations,
> etc. From some of the notes left by Henry Morgenthau there is even more
> detail on the plot.

5. I would like to join, but would be a listener instead of a speaker.
I have a degree but am not as educated as I would like to be in History, so I would like to just listen. I am planning on going back and taking courses when I can.

13. I'm definitely interested in a world history forum.
I don't think you can limit your study or understanding of history to one narrow region or one specific era. Becoming familiar with history is like following an unraveling thread that is interconnected with everything that has gone before and everything that will follow. The story of humanity really is one vast tapestry.

I'm primarily interested in American history, but it is impossible to understand U.S. history without being aware to some degree of the forces (political, social, military, economic and religious) that were in play in other parts of the world. These outside forces did as much to animate our political system, to forge our concept of legal philosophy, to shape our religious heritage and to direct the course of our military as did any deliberate internal forces. And these effects must be considered from both before and after the founding of our country.
