This place has changed.... now I'm posting about 10 posts a day...
when I might have been up to a hundred a day... What's happened to DU? Does anyone else see this change, or is it just me? Granted, that it might just be the disappointing "election" but it's very disconcerting. Oh well, I'll be off for the a few days, maybe it will get back to normal when I get back.

Besides the great hopes we had for the election?

4. Besides that I see a lot of new people...
and I see a lot of new disruptors. It's exhausting, especially now, to keep defending our position. Or maybe to keep defending my own position. Growing pains, I guess. I was just more comfortable here before the election, and now I'm not. What can I say?

23. You are so right about disruptors.
The cynic in me says that they're here to stay. Even though they won the election they cannot let up one bit. DU scares them. I'm firmly convinced of that.

2. Yeah, the place just hasn't been as ... interesting
I'm not sure whether it's DU or the state of the world, but there aren't many stories these days I really want to comment on, and not many threads so enthralling I feel a need to be part of them.

But I'm also hoping that we're all still just shell shocked and that things will get back to normal in time.

3. Funny, I feel as though I'm doing more but posting less
Does that make sense? I check in, get my email "targets" for the day and then hop out.

So, my posts have been a little scarce as well but I'm here just as much as I was if not more.

I think a lot of posters who have been here awhile are a little burnt out and simply exhausted. The newbies seem to be popping in here and there and I try to get some of their enthusiasm. :)

Perhaps I am making it boring by posting so much. ;) The tone in GD has been horrid, but the Lounge seems just the same to me.

Half the time, the Lounge is like the GDs used to be, and the GDs are, well, bizarre. I mostly just lurk and read in LBN & Editorials/Articles lately, and post in here about half as much as I used to.

How to get in 100 posts in a day. I might make 10 posts in a day and even that's pretty ambitious on my part. Perhaps you just need a breather. I think the last 18 months (and more) were a real drain on all of us. I don't think anyone will begrudge you some time to relax and be temporarily disinterested.

I've been doing the same lately. I may have been misleading before. Although I don't post all that much, I still spend HOURS here in the evenings. I'm posting a lot tonight, but then again, I'm slightly loaded, so... :D

Seriously though, I've noticed myself going without DU a lot more lately. I'm sure once some 2006 candidates start getting into the campaign spirit, I'll be going full steam again.

The one below, "Ghost Dance in the Snow" is on its way to me. Gonna get it matted and framed for my Christmas present to myself. I will get number 226 in the edition. Cool, huh?

Also have "Touched by a Vision" by Challenger on its way, but it isn't a LE print. Here it is.

Edited on Wed Nov-24-04 09:32 PM by AP
to creating divsions over candidates. After the primaries there was a self- and DU-imposed camaraderie.

There's a value to deconstructing the campaign -- talking about what went wrong so that we dont' make the same mistakes -- and in arguing about what a good candidate will look like in 2008. However, the tone is obviously accelarating right towards the worst of the primary battles.

The other thing is that there is a huge amount of Democrat self-loathing going on. Most of it is probably from people who are really depressed and angry about the election, but some of it is probably also by disruptors who want to plant the seeds of divisiveness.

Since DU wasn't that well known before the primaries, and because nobody really understood what it's capacity was for raising awareness, money, or whatever, for candidates, it wasn't the focus of so much manipulation. But now that the election is over, I think DU might never go back to what it was. I think the primary battles will now be the model for the rest of DU's existence (with the exception of the period of time between the last primary candidate conceding an election day when people will behave just so they don't get booted).

just saying, legitimately, "this was my argument then, and I'd like to reopen discussion of it." It's like, "I have you in my crosshairs because you don't think they way I do. I hate you. You're the enemy."

It's absurd.

A fish rots from its head, and I know Bush makes everyone angry. But that kind of anger is NOT productive.

It is a huge change in my perspective. The site's really still the best, but it just isn't the same. I miss a lot of people who seem to have left, and I miss the passion we all felt less than a month ago. It will come back, I know, which is why I'll keep coming here (even if I move to a European country that is way more progressive than we).

even a true, non-fraudulent 51% is in no way a mandate. Here in Washington, the Thug won the gov's race by 42 fucking votes. They are calling for the Dem to call off the recount and concede (as if they'd do the same if the shoe were on the other foot:eyes:. Asshats).

I'm sure they're just chomping at the bit to claim a mandate on 42 fucking votes :grr:

I don't come here nearly as often as I used to. Part of it has to do with me wanting to take a break from politics after the election. I invested so much into it, I haven't honestly recovered yet.

42. ive wanted to post and ask what has happened
for a couple weeks. i thought i should give things time but its esp now when i would like to see those that i enjoy reading. you and nsma are definitely 2 of those people as there is real integrity, compassion and intelligence there, which matters a great deal to me in this forum.

the question i was going to ask was if people have left/taken a break or if many have changed their user names? i hardly recognize any names and ive only been here about 6 months. but i miss it too and dont feel nearly as "comfortable"
i have to say though that im glad there are so many people who want to join du, since that validates so many things that we feel. but at the same time, its disconcerting when those recently joined seem to be replacing so many of those i rely upon as the foundation of this board.

i didnt have relationships with others as you and many have, but i looked for certain people and their posts. for me, it has made things feel off kilter as i seek out the familiar and find that those people arent here, or arent posting right now.

thanks for expressing this right now. i hope youll be well and that things will work out however they should for the health of everyone and for the strength of the board.
best wishes to all.

I'm willing to stick with it though and see if it returns back to normal. One good thing I have noticed however, is that the mods are getting rid of disruptors very efficiently. That helps a lot. After the election they seem to have inundated the place.
