King Crimson: Unjustly neglected?
Sitting here with the re-mastered "Red" blasting and it occurs to me that KC was perhaps the only band that successfully transitioned from stultifying art rock to something much more; a distinct and lasting genre driven by Fripp's genius (and in no small part by his ability to enlist and inspire transcendent players).

You?

5. it was USA
Great album, but ironically that;s now late early period. After all sorts of flux between 69 and 76, from 83 the band has been largely the same guys-- though Bil Bruford and Tony Levin were not on the last album.

They've always been a fave of mine, though I've lost track of all the recordings lately-- lots of live albums and compilation/remixes...

And as much as I like all their stuff, In the Court of the Crimson King still does it for me... Oh the acid tr--- I mean listening experiences..

4. Fripp is perhaps the most esoteric ...
the LEAST accessible of the 'great' guitarists ... even Holdsworth seems a gritty fun-loving drinkin buddy next to Fripp ....

As a guitarist, I adore Robert Fripp; as a regular joe, I can understand how he NEVER went mainstream ...

I posted a thread last night about unknown songs that would fit nicely in the classic FM rock canon, and now that I think about it, Crimson has a few: "In the Court of the Crimson King", "I Talk To the Wind", "One More Red Nightmare", "Heartbeat". ("21st Century Schizoid Man" does get occasional classic rock airplay.) Crimson's problem was that their albums would too often include noise experiments, which doesn't make for good "dorm music". Hence, KC has only a cult following.

I really like the remasters. They sound even better when played on a HDCD-compatible CD player.
