Greatest Actress who NEVER won an Oscar?
Gotta be Rosalind Russell. Watched The Trouble With Angels again the other night and died laughing. In the hands of a lesser actress, some of her lines would have fallen flat--but she knows how to get the most out of every word she uttered. The Women, Mourning Becomes Electra, Auntie Mame, His Girl Friday--this list goes on and on.

How about you?

I know some of you will say Barbara Stanwyck, but since she got an honorary one, I didn't consider her.

11. Yeah, the movie does well with mixing humor with drama...
...it could have been a hokey line from a lesser actress.

Auntie Mame will always be my favorite. (When the movie came out everyone who knew my mother thought they'd been following her around to get material for the movie.)

34. Actually, when I was a teenager having Auntie Mame for a mother
was a bit trying... I appreciate her more now. She's 80 and can still be pretty zany. Remember the two scenes where Mame has to deal with Patrick's fiance's pretentious parents? I can see my mother dealing with the Bushes that way. (In fact, I have seen her deal with nasty people that way.)

The funny thing is, she acts like Mame, but her oldest sister looks like Rosalind Russell.

31. Great movie... Might be a hard fine.
It has the guy who played the father in my three sons (sorry can't think of his name tonight.) She is looking for a male secretary and she is the excustive who of course at the end of the movie who falls in love.

Yes, I do get a little upset that she plays these strong woman (ahead of the times.) and gives it up for love. BUT I know it was the way things were done BUT she played those smart strong woman that really made her a rolemodel for me.

Hey, how come the heads aren't represented? :P

Ida Lupino was a good actress who got stuck in B movies because she was too independent for Hollywood. She also directed 'The Trouble With Angels' btw.
