I'm proud to say that was the name of my college band.

We played straight, classic country (Hank, Waylon, Merle, et al).

5. "The Slits" is a great name...
Proto-punk feminist rockers covered in mud...what else would you call them?

Personally, I can't stand all the alphanumeric cooki cutter bands:

311, Finger 11, Blink 182, etc...

10. I think Nashville Pussy and the Psychadelic Furs are fine names,
along with several others on your list, but maybe I'm just used to them. There's a band called Hobostink which gets my vote for worst band name ever.

16. If you're going to include the Revolting Cocks,
you might as well throw in the Dead Kennedys. However, I think the names fit the music, so I wouldn't include them.

Dickey Dell and the Bing Bongs is pretty hilarious!

That would be a long thread in itself.

Johnny and the Self-Abusers, anyone? (Bonus points for knowing who they're better known as.)

That was back in the mid-eighties. I do believe there is/was a band by that name since, so I happily take credit.

It's Northern English slang for an erection.

28. I can't agree with you on all of these
I think the main thing with a bands name is that it should be distinctive, and hopefully not tie them to a certain genre too much. I mean, Courtney Love could do an ooey gooey love song, but they aren't going to play it on Adult Contemporary stations because her bands name is "Hole". So if you're going to choose something like "Nashville Pussy", you're going to have to accept that certain radio stations are going to play your music, just because of your name.

Then there are the names that, while distinctive, make absolutely no sense like Toad the Wet Sprocket, Better Than Ezra and Hootie and the Blowfish. I would add Fountains of Wayne and Bowling for Soup to that list.
