3. He's the "Painter of Light".
But really, he's like the ho of art. I think he's a Christian too, and you know what DUers think of them!

18. Never understood that term....
Don't know what born again is, compared to evangelical, or fundamentalist... He doesn't give himself a denomination either....

22. It's a biblical reference, not a denomination.
It's also kind of redundant: "To enter the kingdom of heaven you must be born again."

Maybe it's simply a metaphor for physical death. I'm kinda partial to the thoughts brought up on sites like tentmaker.org.

20. A serious business man. Best since Andy Warhol.
Warhol set up a production line for his art in NYC called "The Factory" where a merry crew of some of the most interesting, talented, and outrageous people you'd ever meet produced Andy Warhol art. It was all based on Warhol concepts. Warhol distributed the art through the normal channel of art galleries owned by others.

This Kincaid guy produces his "art" which, in my informed opinion, is pond swill, in a somewhat similar fashion. His innovation was selling franchises for his Kincaid art emporiums thus controlling both production and distribution. At least that's what he was doing a few years ago. Who knows, he may just do direct marketing on cable now.

I'm glad someone included a sample of his "work." Hallmark wouldn't touch this stuff with a 10' poll.

25. A craptastic piece of shit as an artist, and as a human being
I uh....

well, hell, I'd love to offer my disgust and general dismay at the man, both for his fake art, and his dangerous faux-Christianity that alludes to a sense of American messianic nationalism, and a belief that at some point, pre-Beatles or pre-communism party, or maybe before women were allowed to wear pants, that America was all beauty, peace, harmony and beaiful homes with no poverty, no social ills, and a time when every single America was a rightwing Christian who all went to Church on Sundays and enjoyed a huge family dinner on Sunday nights, because, hey, all was propserity and there were no problems.

And he tells the morans who buy his art that his art is an "investment", and charges them thousands and thousands of dollars for reprints, but claims that the reprints are "originals" because each one has a few dabs of REAL paint on them, painted there by one of the "painters" he trains to work his galleries that, for some reason, only occur in malls.

No, i couldn't even begin to tell you just how much of a piece of shit he is.

28. Now you're getting it!
I take some consolation that he's being sued by some of his "collectors" for producing too much stuff and lowering value, and for his artwork not appreciating in value as much as he promised them.

34. He bought the famous Doc Bar Ranch, near San Francisco...
the ranch was so named because it was the home of one of the greatest Quarter Horse stallions of all time, Doc Bar. The stallion died in 1992, and was buried on the ranch. Numerous World Champions were produced at the Doc Bar Ranch. Even today, Doc Bar's bloodlines are a major force in the Quarter Horse breed.

Although he bought himself a "ranch", Mr. Kinkade apparently dislikes horses so Doc Bar's tombstone was ripped out, leaving the grave unmarked. He also changed the ranch name to Windmere Properties, which is the Kinkade business name. Word is that Windmere Properties is in the process of branding the Thomas Kinkade name and "art" on household merchandise and is also building a housing development (with all the homes resembling Kinkade paintings) in Vallejo, CA.

A person may or may not like horses, but it tells me a lot that Kinkade chose to buy a property that was a known historical equine site, with the grave of a world-famous horse, apparently had the grave marker taken away, and re-named and homogenized the place to suit his own corporate needs.

Kind of like his sappy paintings... no real history allowed, just the past according to Kinkade.

How does Kinkade regard Picasso? "I don't believe, in time, that he will be regarded as the titan that he is now," says Kinkade. "He is a man of great talent who, to me, used it to create three Picassos before breakfast because he could get $10,000 each for them."

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2001/11/21/60minutes/main318790.shtml

And in time, Mr. Kinkade will be remembered as the man who signed 300 prints before breakfast and gave the buyers the illusion they purchased an original work.
