Upon reading the Lounge lately....
what is the best way for me to die but yet leave a modicum of hope for future generations?

1. give your body to science
or die on the footsteps of the whitehouse to cause attention
....hmmm

2. I was thinking about that....
But in the long run it would be as useful as posting here in the first place...

Committing suicide would be pointless, the right would laugh at it and the "left" would go out on a limb just to say "oooh"...

4. Doesn't hope come from
Edited on Thu Nov-25-04 04:31 AM by KT2000
people who make thoughtful decisions with regard for others?
I often think of union organizers, Martin Luther King, JFK, the women who chained themselves to the White House fence, the whistleblowers and the unrecognized people who choose what is right above what pays the most.

9.  I know what you mean -
our heroes are huge.
But really, I think we underestimate our own contributions to things. Most of us are really only able to "plant seeds" and hope something comes of it - big or small.

I recall working on an issue where a low-life polluting company was trying to get away with dumping dioxin in a neighborhood of families. They ended up getting away with it because people would not even attend the meetings and hearings - they were too afraid. When they saw that no one was even showing up for the meetings they just went full seam ahead with consent of the local politicians. If only the people had participated - the politicians would have backed off and forced the company to stop. All they really had to do was jsut sit there!
Anyway - sometimes just doing small things helps a lot.

In case your post was serious - I am just suggesting there are things we have to do and can feel good about.

6. Wrong question
Edited on Thu Nov-25-04 04:32 AM by The Traveler
Ultimately, the way you have lived will transmit more hope than the manner of your death. But since you have asked the question you asked, I suspect you are already doing well in that regard, and have already given more than you know.

(Edited ... damn typos)

10. You will help more
It is our life's work. You care, I care ... it means we are willing to sweat and bleed and cry for it. We can't fall into despair or apathy, no matter how dark these times be. We have to feel the total suckiness of it and keep our heads high no matter what. The pain is good, Tom Kitten ... it means your heart has not turned to stone, that you have not been overwhelmed by bitterness. It means you can still fight the good fight.

And that gives me considerable hope, dude ... neither of us surrenders today.

11. you have wisdom beyond the ages...
although my life sucks a lot I know it could be much worse off and I do have the ability to help others worse off than me. And I try...but I do not ever wish to proclaim what I do or contribute...No matter how small my contribution might seem.

13. keep hope alive!
That's the most important thing. Keep living and being and doing the right thing as far as you can discern it.

As far as dying, I think I'll remark to my husband that, should I drop dead, my obituary should have a political paragraph. I've been moved by ones that read along the lines of: "In memoriam, vote for Kerry."

Despite how bad things are politcally (and let's face it they are pretty bad) it is always a joy to read thoughts like yours...

The one thing I will never give up on is Hope...

20. No dying. There is to be no dying. Living well is the best revenge,
but failing that, live poorly and ridicule the dingbats mercilessly. If you want to give something up for the team, go sleep with Tom Delay and get photographs. (See? And you thought you felt bad before!:))
