I'm doing a project - some questions about the US 'system'
Hi folks!

I'm doing a thingy for the web and have some questions.

1. How is the election organized, if seen as categories?
If I'll start a list like this:
Country: United States
State: Ohio
County: ?
Even lower district: ?

How many categories would it be, and how many districts/counties would each state hold? And is there a list of all these somewhere? ;)

2. In this election year there's also the election for the senate, how is this spread out - are all senators on election, or just in some states?

Thanks in advance!

PS. If this seem as novice questions, well, you're right :7

1. info
I would do this:
Country: United States
State: Ohio
County: ?
Even lower district:
Precint: 1A

and then take it by precincts, of which every county has a different amount. Each state should have a secretary of state website which will provide the figures you need.

That is going to be time consuming though, this whole project sounds time consuming.

As far as senate races.. I'm really not sure. But that is something you could also find at each states SOS website. Just do a google search for say New York Secretary of state....

Good luck with this, sounds interesting. I'm planning on majoring in Political Science once I finish CC and I like doing research like this :)

2. Thanks :-)
OK - so if you vote, you go to your precinct 'vote booth', then votes for each precinct is gathered into county votes, and the county votes is what makes up the state votes that finally is what decides the electoral votes?

Phew!
It is a bit time consuming yes. Perhaps I'll just go with the states this time, then expand it later.

Thanks for feedback :-)

In Oregon we get our ballot a few weeks before the election and mail it in. No lines. Perhaps that is why we had 80% plus turnout in the last election. And Kerry won easily in our state.

7. If you need even more details...
That timeline can be found here.

http://www.thegreenpapers.com in general is a great site for info about the U.S. political system.
