I wish they'd show some pics from the opposite angle so we can see how distorted the image actually is to get correct perspective.

I assume this is a drawing too? I had to look for a long time.

On the website you have listed there is a drawing
with a woman's leg extended straight up out of a
pool of water. How is that done? The foot looks like it cannot
possibly be part of a drawing.

5. It's a trick of perspective

He draws the pics so that, from the right angle, they look like a 3D object in perspective. Then when you take a 2D photo, since there's no depth perception, your brain sees the same thing it would see in a photo of a real 3D object and interprets it as such. Putting himself in the photo, seemingly interacting with the drawing, heightens the illusion.

If the photos were taken from a different angle in most or all cases you would see it as a 2D drawing, because the perspective wouldn't be right.
