So we have Christmas and Halloween lights - how long before
we get Easter lights (pastel colors), Thanksgiving lights (brown and orange), Independence Day 4th of July lights (red/white/blue), Valentine's Day lights (red, white, and pink), President's Day (blood red), 'Patriot Day (9/11)' (black lights), Memorial Day (black lights), and Labor Day (invisible lights)? :shrug:

I have seen Easter lights ona house in the 'hood. Seems they might have some V-D Day lights, too.

The others - nice, welcome to Bush, round 2.

12. I honestly don't think we can lay this at *'s feet.
I've known a store here in liberal Seattle that sells most all of those sorts of lights and more, - Cinco de Mayo with little chili peppers, eggs and pinatas, Valentines Day with hearts and cupids, St. Patrick's Day with shamrocks, etc. And yes, many are patriotic in theme. They've done so for more than a decade. :shrug:

3. Nah, the ones in the hood...
were just left over from Christmas!

Those other "holidays" won't ever get lights -- gets too dark too late to be worth putting them up!

7. In my neighborhood
I've seen Valentine's day (Hearts), St. Patrick's day(Shamrocks), Easter(eggs, not crosses which would be more appropriate in my opinion), July 4th (Red White Blue), Halloween(Pumpkins), and Christmas lights.

Target stores seem to be a major contributor to this.

8. Turkey Lights
My kid is outside with the camera otherwise I'd share a picture of my Turkey Lights hanging off a ledge in the dining room.

OK I'm kinda dorky about holidays!

PS: Easter Lights are shaped like Easter Eggs: 4th of July= Red, White and Blue stars: Halloween= orange pumpkins or whitish skulls: Valentines day are red hearts.

What a waste of energy. It's not like we've got renewable energy sources, folks. We're in a war for them, for goodness' sake!

You can say a little string of lights does no harm all you like. Multiply it by millions of people doing it, and it's hordes of energy that could be used for survival purposes.

Don't feed the energy tycoons and the oil wars.

Some of my neighbors from India put up colored holiday lights on the festival of Diwali which comes around this time of year.

Of course they are indoors on our Easter Tree. When I was in Germany, I was told that the "Oster Baum" was first, people would bring spring branches into the house and decorate them with ribbons and colored eggs, and that probably gave people the idea to decorate a tree at Christmas.

15. Before the Election...
it was Kerry Country here, by I'd say 10 to 1 when it comes to yard signs. A few days prior to the election I saw someone in Rocky River with one of those huge ass blow up things in their front yard.....similar to the Frosty's and Santa's. It was a HUGE Uncle Sam with "Bush" in big letters on it.......with spotlights all around it. They also had all sorts of lights and BS all over their yard for shrub. It was disgusting to say the least. (This yard was surrounded by Kerry supporters) I drove by a day after the election and that big ass thing was deflated. Can't help but think that one of his neighbors doesn't like him very much.......:headbang:
