1. Tuna and vodka
I felt like being alone today and declined all dinners. Just tuna, vodka, the Dead, and DU.

2. My mom's side of the family outsourced Thanksgiving once.
The plumbing exploded like right before Thanksgiving and they went to the Barn of Barrington. I think I would have actually liked that, but I was at my dad's.

3. We're breaking tradition this year
by actually attending a family gathering.

We've bailed on T-giving for years and this year we're going to visit my mom. We will, of course, not be eating a bird; we shall be enjoying a wheat gluten & tofu concoction in the shape of a bird. (Yum!)

4. I said this earlier today
My wife is in IL, my daughter in England, son is in Ga, my parents are in IN and my inlaws are in OH and I'm in AL, so beer all day, who needs food.

7. Beer is good.
Try having some bread with it. That way it will be more of a meal. Good luck with getting family together next year.

5. I'm making saag
to take to the neighborhood feast. Organic, home raised turkey will also be on the menu, but my dish definately isn't traditional-its curried spinach, Indian style.

6. Chicken and Sausage Gumbo
Mr. Finecraft has to work tonight, so we had an early lunch. A turkey would have taken too long, so we decided on gumbo.

8. Haggis.
I'm sorry. No, not really. I'm trying to work on the pathological lying thing.

10. Traditional for us is Lobster & Champagne. I f'ing hate turkey in all
it's ghastly forms. Besides cooking lobster consists of boiling water. How great is that.

11. I have a stuffed turkey with some potatoes in the oven
and my son is gone snowboarding. When he gets home, the two of us will have this dinner that's a little excessive by our normal standards but hardly the traditional feast. Then we'll have turkey and stuffing sandwiches for days. That's the only reason I'm willing to stuff a turkey. My hands still feel funny after several washings.

Right about now, at a perfect suburban castle in Salt Lake City, my brother is probably rolling out a giant feast that he personally prepared, including his first-ever homemade pies, for his family of six plus our Mormon wingnut mother. I can't help wondering if they'll bless the food. I know I'm having more fun sitting here by myself with funny-feeling hands, listening to a mix of Stan Ridgway, Stevie Nicks, John Mellencamp, U2, and INXS.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

12. It's about 6pm and I'm back from the Chinese buffet.
The food there was great, with so many different things. The closest thing they had to a traditional Thanksgiving Day food was Jello with bananas in it. I'll open my fortune cookie later.

13. I'm eating soup alone at my house.
I lost the directions to where I was invited to have dinner, and the host isn't picking up the phone.
