I went down to the Super Marked Deli to by a baked chicken for dinner a little while ago. They were all sold out.
It put me in mind of a Thanksgiving down in South Carolina twenty five years or so past. I went out into the salt water creeks and tonged up several bushels of nice single oysters and a couple bags of clams. On the way back to the dock I raided a few of my crab traps but because of the cold water the crab catch was small.
Back at the house the early arrivals were doing cooking things. The sister and her family coming down from North Carolina were bringing the turkey and were running late so we built up a fire under the old car hood and proceeded to roast the oysters and clams. The crabs were being boiled in the house.
The sister from North Carolina was bringing the turkey. Upon arriving at the house she realized she had forgotten to bring the turkey.
Anyway today reminds me of that. Except for the oysters clams and crabs that we do not have either.
