Tomorrow morning at 6AM, the frenzy of consumerism at the local...
Walmart begins.

People will begin lining up tonight at midnight, in anticipation of being the first in the doors at 6 tomorrow morning to get cheap DVD players, toys, kitchen appliances, and toilet paper.

Women will fight over skateboards. They will steal crockpots out of each other's buggies. They will run across the store to get to the unannounced special before others, knocking others out of their way. Last year, a pregnant woman was pinned between two buggies for a four-dollar blanket.

My brother and I are going tomorrow morning with out video camera to document the craziness. We do it every year, and then come home and laugh at the childish behavior of our town's upstanding citizens.

Have any DUers ever gone to the morning-after-Thanksgiving sale at Walmart? Don't go to buy, but go to observe. It's excellent, free entertainment.

2. I plan to be sleeping at six a.m.
I thought I might get up at 7:00, do my cardio video workout, lift some weights, and then make coffee.

When the husband and kids get up, we can have some breakfast and start going through the Christmas decorations.

Leftover turkey sandwiches for lunch...maybe a couple of beers and a game of Trivial Pursuit or cards...

NO SHOPPING. No fighting crowds. Nope. :)

4. Last year, a woman was killed at Wal Mart
On Nov 26th. Trampled and crushed over a rush to DVD players on sale. Her friends grabbed one anyway, cuz "that's how she would've wanted it"

6. I just don't understand that mentality at all.
Fair play to you and your brother though, I would not set foot in any retail store tomorrow for all the tea in China.

Depending on my mood, I might just put up my Christmas tree and decorations tomorrow and listen to some Christmas music, which I love.

7. I ain't touching it
I don't go to the stores the day after Thanksgiving. I find it to be an excercise for the brainless.

I prefer to wait until December, and go shopping mid-week, where there's hardly any crowds. I like camaraderie as much as anyone, but not that much.

9. We don't go to shop...we go for a good hearty laugh.
And then we bring the video home to show others in our family. Nothing is more fun than sitting around with family, watching the video, and having Great Uncle Ike make an observation like, "Glory, Glory, isn't that the Methodist preacher's wife grabbing the baby doll out of that toddler's hands?"

:-)

8. Now,
imagine being in a crisis of some sort. You know, food shortages, etc.

These primative savages would probably rip babies apart in a crowd and feast on the tender raw morsals if they were hungry enough.

Scary.
