my older brother always had Playboys laying around. I was of course interested in the pics but the Jean Shepherd short stories cracked us up......anybody remember them? I know they made one other movie, about going to MI for vacation, it was "Ollie Hopnoodles Haven of Bliss", but I remember lots of other stories. Jean Shepherd was an amazing author, the old man in his stories was just classic. For you guys out there, if you haven't read him, you HAVE to check it out. Did some research on him: found this awesome link:

http://www.keyflux.com/shep/shepbiblio.htm

Check out how many Playboy stories he wrote, also Car and Drivers.
edit: spelling/Jean not Gene

48. I was traumatized by this movie as a child
Especially the scene where he gets his tongue stuck to a metal pole. I wouldn't go near a frozen pole in winter for years after that. It's funny now but when you're a kid it's a Christmas Horror Story!

50.  I heard Jean Shepherd tell much of that story on the radio.
One Christmas we were driving back from the Bronx or River Edge or somwhere and Jean Shepherd came on the radio telling that Red Ryder BB gun story. This was years before the movie came out. He was hilarious, especially when describing how to dress little kids in layers in the middle of winter. I was sorry we got home before he finished the story.

To this day, I never get tired of the movie.

but I refuse to watch it more than once a season. And that once is on Christmas Eve (before Midnight Mass from the Vatican) - it's our tradition.
