I'm about ready to kick some

geriatric and Latino butts! Can't anybody be cordial anymore??? What has become of us? I got off work this morning at 5:30am and decided to hit the earlybird special at Sears and get a couple of shower cd/radios for $19.99 off plus a $10 off card making it only $32, right? So I decide to get in the smallest line possible back towards the loungerie department. As I'm standing there, 2 old ladies cut in front of me, so I'm thinking to my self 'well they must be tired and not able to stand that long so I'll let them ahead without saying anything'.......okay.....then a Latino lady comes up with her 2 sons and the 2 old ladies and the woman act like they know each other and are talking, but the Latino lady has this huge cart with all kinds of things in it and 2 sons and a daughter in tow and she stays in line.....(I'm getting madder at this point)....so she buys her stuff and then ANOTHER Latino woman comes up and butts right in front of me with some pajamas......I waited to see what she was going to do....believe it or not, she goes right up and starts to buy them! By this time I have about 20 people in line behind me pissed off too because they see the same thing....so I break out in Spanish "Conpermiso pero estoy premiero aqui ahora! (I don't know my Spanish very well)...they just ignore me like they like I'm some kind of nut! I must have sucker written all over me because then one of the woman's sons decides to buy this black leather jacket with his own money. So that's 5 people who cut in front of me. The cashier said something but nobody listened and everyone acted like they didn't care or didn't understand. I must have "sucker" written all over my forehead.

This is so rude! How have people become so rude like this?!?!? I vow I will NEVER go to one of those earlybird specials again! I swear so many people have lost all considerateness and respect for one another. I'm am a very patient person, too.

Sorry but I needed to rant a little. Any of you ever had this experience before?

Like getting on a bus in Italy - everybody just goes for it instead of staying in line. I do think that when you move to a country, however, you should learn the local manners :grr:

So I don't know what their excuse was!! I'm not trying to pick on Latino people either, but I was trying to give a visual of what I was seeing. It doesn't seem to matter, everybody seems this way anymore! And as hard as it is for Latinos to be accepted in my small redneck town, you would think they would want to try to make a good impression on the bigots standing around watching their actions! At least that's the way I would try to be if I were a minority! I would try to break a stereotype or try to improve relations and this is just one way the rednecks around here will use it to solidify their prejudices! To me, they were just people being rude but they just happened to be Latino at the same time and I knew the image they were projecting to the prejudiced ones standing there. These newcomers to our area don't realize how much I've tried to stick up for them and to counter the stereotyping so popular around here--I used to live in L.A. and all my friends were hispanic which is how I picked up some of my broken Spanish and I use my experiences to give the prejudiced a different view. Things like happened at the checkout don't help my cause much! GRRR!

It might not help, but at least you've made your point. No need to speak Spanish. Most of these folks understand English to some extent if they have some money to buy lingerie at Sears.

...thinking this was just another day at the mall for you, then I realized: this is a huge shopping day for you folks, sort of like Boxing Day (Dec. 26) here in Canada or in the UK.

These types of shopping days for us are all out freakin' war. People camp overnight outside electronics stores, old ladies actually fight each other when there's only one item left on the shelf, mothers get medieval with each other over Easy Bake Ovens...it's all out consumer carnage.

My advice: go forth with purpose, and have a mean snark on your face. Take no prisoners. Or, do like I do: avoid it altogether. (Boxing Day here is, not coincidentally, also the biggest day of the year at ski resorts - people plan for months in advance to just go skiing and avoid the bedlam.)

was madness! I would've NEVER gotten up at the crack of dawn to do this--I just happened to get off work and thought I could take adavantage of the sale. Thankfully, I've done most of my shopping online and it's almost done! That fighting crap is for the birds. I'll never do it again. I'm usually the one who finds all the "off" times to go shopping when nobody is usually there. I detest huge crowds and long lines and usually avoid it like the plague.

You couldn't pay me to go out today! And I'll probably avoid shopping on the weekends for the next six weeks. Craziness.

CD shower radios for 2 disabled people who don't have family to give them anything for Christmas? I do give a shit about people. I just spent 12 hours of work taking care of sick people all night. Thank you.

Oh yeah, and my husband has been unemployed from a factory closing since February and I wanted to get a nice gift for the best deal of which happened to be at that sale.

and I'm sure the people receiving your gifts will be truly thankful for your caring.

This happens every year, like clockwork. Normal people get crazy early in the day, the day after Thanksgiving.

you were in line? Were you not scooched right up against the person in front of you, invading their personal space? That's what I hate. I'm frequently tempted to ask the person behind me to step back.

I've also noticed that many old people are a menace at the grocery store. They putter up and down the aisles as if no one else is there and frequently block the road with their carts. If you're behind them, they veer to whichever side you're trying to pass them on. If you're moving toward them, they just keep coming at you as if they're playing chicken. And they never, ever say, "Excuse me."

What's up with that?

power wheel chairs (without a cart) cut between me and a checkout line and sit there, blocking my way, until his wife came with her overloaded cart. I had less than 20 items. :mad: Another time I was actually at the checkout when a little old lady actually used her cart to push mine out of the way so that she could take my place in line. :grr:

I'm not a nasty person. If asked, I've been known to let someone who was in a hurry go ahead of me, but that kind of rudeness I can do without!

this older woman in a scooter almost ran me down trying to get into the bathroom. I was standing outside waiting for my mother, and wasn't standing in the way. After the fact, the woman's daughter comes running up, breathless, apologizing to me for the way her mother had acted. Talk about Hell on wheels!
