Just to clarify from THAT thread, CLEARLY a parent who doesn't believe in spanking should NOT do it. You know what works for you and him better than anyone. I didn't mean to come across as pro-spanking (I find it extremely last resort, and hopefully NEVER necessary), just that one never knows what the long-term results will be. Maybe I was lucky, but my sister is also a non-violent type, although I have no idea if she spanks her kid or not - I think he is better-behaved than I was. Some kids behave better than others, and spanking can make them WORSE at times, whereas not spanking some kids also makes them worse (empty threats of 'time-outs' and threatening of withholding rewards but giving in anyway is probably the real cuplrit there). Raising kids is more trial-and-error than art.

The best skill you can teach your son is to clean the cat poop daily. I mean it! x( :-)

I put people on ignore for all kinds of reasons. But a lot of my friends use OMG and know I was just being Uncle Zomby, the misanthropic old fart.

I have to admit, I was rather hurt by it and I am not one to take anything on the internet personally at all. To make matters worse, I felt like an idiot for not even connecting the dots about the fact that I WAS being ignored. Imagine posting all kinds of nice things to a person for weeks and only having it slowly dawn on you that they never say a thing in return. And not just in 25,000 post congratulations threads, but in the thread where you talked about your acting role etc. All kinds of stuff.

You will probably have to put me right back on ignore, as I can't promise I won't use "breathlessly inane cliched" abbreviations. I'll try looking for the thread again.

I never had you on ignore. And sometimes, I just MISS people, and feel even dumber when I go back to them much later. So I opt to stay silent, thinking they won't care. I was wrong about that... you do care. :-(

He does his "chores" every morning, before beginning his day. He feeds all pets--all eight of them--cleans the reptile tanks AND the litter box.

Yeah, discipline equals grounding in our house, and that has been very effective. He loses privileges and can't visit friends or have friends over.

I don't think I could ask for a better kid. He's sensitive, loving, and generous. A couple of days ago, he had only five dollars in his wallet. We were going to do some last-minute Thanksgiving grocery shopping, and he put his five dollars in a collection jar for the local summer camp for mentally retarded children. That's the kind of kid he is. Spanking him would kill his sweet soul, and I just couldn't bear to do that.

For alcohol, I only drink whiskey, wine, and beer.

They make a drink called "Fire on the Mountain." It's Jagermeister with Barcardi 151 in a little shot glass. The bartender lights it on fire, and then the bar patron blows it out before imbibing.

Well, I had five of them one time. On the sixth, I forgot to blow it out, until it singed my top lip. Those things are potent, and I haven't drank Jagermeister since. :-)

Then light it to see my name in blue flame. We got lots of free liquor stealing it from the Officer's Club where we worked in high school. I drank a shot of it on a bet, and won. Because I didn't flinch or blink. I did need to sit down right after standing up, lol.
