He's the POS that referred to the provisions in the Geneva convention as 'quaint'. He is also responsible, through his 'legal' memos, for the torture that has been occurring. Don't take my word for it. From Democracy Now! !1 November 2004

LA Times: Gonzales "Disastrous' Choice for AGIn news from Washington, President Bush has nominated Alberto Gonzales to replace John Ashcroft as attorney general. The Los Angeles Times has described the selection as a "disastrous choice."
Gonzales Dismissed Geneva ConventionsGonzales helped pave the legal groundwork that led to the torture of detainees at Abu Ghraib. In 2002 he claimed in a memo that the war on terrorism renders obsolete portions of the Geneva Conventions. He favored altering the 1978 Presidential Records Act to severely restrict access to presidential documents. He is a strong backer of the Patriot Act. And he has often been seen as dismissive of international law. In 1997, during his stint as Bush's gubernatorial counsel, Gonzales argued that the state of Texas was not bound by international treaties signed by the United States. He made this argument to defend the execution of a Mexican man who was interrogated and tried without being given a chance to contact the Mexican embassy. Several groups have already announced opposition to Gonzales including the Center for Constitutional Rights, People for the American Way and Human Rights First. Gonzales has also been criticized by some conservatives who have been skeptical of his views on abortion and affirmative action.
Gonzales Linked Closely to BushHe has been extremely close to Bush over the past decade. As governor of Texas, Bush appointed him to be gubernatorial counsel, Texas Secretary of State and to serve on the Texas Supreme Court. When Bush became president, he chose Gonzales as his presidential counsel. And now Gonzales appears set to become attorney general. If his nomination is approved by the Senate, Gonzales will become the country's highest ranking Latino official ever."
