1. Do you live in Christian Bookstore land?
I always wondered about what it was like amoung evangelicals. We don't have many up here.

3. Yes. I have five brothers, and two of them are pretty
serious evangelicals, and I live in Red State, USA.

It's okay most of the time, because I have learned to manipulate them (the neighbors/residents, not my brothers). If they start preaching, I put this earnest look on my face and say:

"I really want to know for sure about Jesus. Pray for me to find what I'm looking for, okay? Pray for me, but I'm not ready to talk about it now."

They immediately leave me alone for fear of interfering with whatever Jesus is doing in my heart. LOL.

4. Who do you think will die in the next book?
Personally, my vote is for Arthur Weasley, because that would be the worst and most horrible thing, and therefore the most effective.

6. I think one of the Weasley twins.
One of the men in Molly's life is a goner. The foreshadowing in OotP was just too heavy. The twins would be the most poignant, because they're so full of life and laughter.

In the final battle, I think that Severus will die for Harry. And I will cry. I love that man.

7. How funny - I was going to say that
about Snape myself; I agree, I think the only way Severus will redeem himself is when he (finally) dies to save Harry. I do enjoy the character a lot (and on a personal rant note: how could anyone *not* get Potions? It's like a cooking class for cri-yi!)

Oooh, but not one of the twins! Can't she off Percy instead? No matter who, though, I do think the Weasley family will be hit.

8. If you study the timeline.....
.....Severus has been teaching there for fourteen years, as of OotP. That means he was a DE for no more than three years (he was in the same year as Harry's parents and the other Marauders).

It kills me that he's going to die for three years worth of bad choices.

But he will.

Have you read any fan fiction? Harry/Snape is a popular pairing, and for good reason, I think.

10. Only one, but it was a full-length novel
It was one of the fake OotPs that were flying around the net before the book came out; it had Draco and Ginny starting a dating relationship, among other improbables. I was impressed by the length and breadth of it - as a publishing professional, I could tell it had been labored over as much as any "real" book.

11. If you're not opposed to rather graphic sexual content,
then I recommend http://www.restrictedsection.org. Some of the stories there are terrible, but the ones that are great are *magnificent*. The humorous stories are especially nice.

Look for "Unexpected Performances," "Come for Christmas," "In Mulierbus," "Ten Zillion Points from Gryffindor," "The Familiar," and "The Bet." *hysterical* stuff. :D :D :D :D :D

19. Snape is an extremely moral character.
He is the only person in Harry's life who has ever treated him exactly like everyone else. He's always either been *below* everyone else or *above* everyone else. He is giving Harry the gift of being ordinary.

24. After she killed off Snuffles, I knew it would be the twins.
The closest person Harry's ever known to a father went through the veil.

So who's going to die next? Obviously a Weasley, after all the foreshadowing.

Percy the Republican jerkoff? Nope.

One of the fun-loving, joke-playing, comic-relief, eminently lovable twins?

Yep.

They're *doomed*.

28. But if Arthur dies
then the twins will have the responsibility of helping the family out financially, which I think would be a more invigorating plot twist than if one or both of them died. On another note, wonder if Molly would then find out who financed the joke shop...

30. Arthur's not much of a provider, though.
I love him and he's definitely a great daddy -- but the twins are already helping out with the joke shop (they wouldn't be buying those new clothes if their family was still barely eating).

Molly will find out that Harry was their angel investor, and she probably won't care now that they're being responsible business owners and bringing in money (I imagine she doesn't want them to join the Ministry now anyway. Would you? :scared:).

that threat worked. I know from your other posts you like to read. Try Calculating God (not sure of author), Galatea 2.2 by Powers (Richard?) or Jonathan Lethem's first book - Gun, with Occasional Music. All are great, thoughtful, well-written stories. Lethem's is a riotfest parody of sci fi and noir detective novels.

Only the far-extreme fundies are virulent about Harry Potter. I have HP bumper stickers on my car (I Speak Parseltongue) and no one gives me grief about it. One of the local churches did a Sunday School series on "Moral Lessons in Harry Potter," and I saw several of my brother's church friends when I stood in line until midnight to buy OotP.

He's not as popular among evangelicals as you might think. The praying in tongues, faith healing, etc., makes a lot of them squirmy. He is most popular among "fundicostals" -- full-gospel, pentacostal types.

27. I read all twelve Left Behind books.
They are ATROCIOUSLY bad. The characters are thinner than Mary-Kate Olsen (gosh, I'm evil :evilfrown:) and even if you believe the whole book of Revelation, the rendering was implausible. The last one made me especially sick what with it turning Jesus into a mass murderer. x(

The good news is that reasonably intelligent evangelicals -- some of them, anyway -- have been having their eyes opened by how awful the books are. One of my brothers made the comment that the whole idea of Revelation being true seems way less likely (a pretty significant admission, from him).

68. I always get bookstore gift cards for Christmas. I'll get them soon!
My brothers all give me gift cards. Every year. :D

Except for the brother I like the most. He gives me coupons for doing yardwork and taking out my trash and other house-husband type stuff (he worries about me because I live alone; it's really a book full of excuses to come over and check up on me. But I don't mind.)

86. Good question!
The Harry Potter series, of course.

I especially like American Literature from the civil war era on. I love The Scarlet Letter, Moby Dick, and Walt Whitman.

My most recent read was Philip Roth's "The Plot Against America." FABULOUS.

91. I'd get too confused posting one word at a time!
The premise is that Charles Lindbergh runs against FDR and wins, America reaches an "understanding" with Hitler, and we go fascist.

Roth has been paying *VERY* close attention to Bushco. It's brilliant, plausible, and *creepy* -- it reads like prophecy. You must read it!
