Seems like a very useful gadget. There is plenty of progressive content. The car kit will make long drives seem shorter.

Anyone else want to share tips learned through experience?

1. What was the total cost
and how much did you have to pay for the subscription up front?

6. Great Idea Eh??
I think I would much prefer to pay up front a fee, than have to listen to garbage. Now you can get AAR anywhere......except under the bridges or roofs, but hey it is way cooler than regular radio. We need more info, esp. on why you went with Sirius vs. XM, etc.

16. Why Sirius instead of XM
1) XM is partly owned by Clear Channel (although, in fairness, Clear Channel did bring most of Air America Radio to Boston).

2) Sirius carries the complete Air America; XM replaces the great Mike Malloy with (alan colmes). Plus Sirius has another whole Talk Left channel with Thom Hartmann, Ed Schultz, Stephanie Miller, and (alan colmes), and another channel, Sirius OutQ, for gays and lesbians.

3) Sirius has Little Steven's Underground Garage channel, which is the best rock radio I've heard since the early 70s.

11. Be Careful With Your Antena...
if you have one that looks like a computer mouse. The aren't the sturdiest things in the world. Other than that, I have not listened to terrestrial radio at all since I purchased Sirius in September. The seek alert that tells you when your favorite songs are coming on is 'da bomb.

13. I aksed for it for Christmas!
I can't get AAR unless I stream it in on my computer, which means I have to stay in my kitchen. Not very practical- I can't wait to get it!!

17. I had the same problem.......
until I purchased a C.Crane FM Transmitter...it is awesome, now we get the stream with any radio in the house. I have to warn you, it needs a slight modification (turns up the power) before it works real well, but we are very happy with it. (I feel the price is worth it, as it is digital, stereo, and has an ac adapter)
Here is the link.

http://www.ccrane.com/fm-transmitter.aspx

here is the link for the modification, all you need is a small phillips head screwdriver:

15. Got in on a Howard Stern promo
Actually, my DAD's been wanting it, so I figured I'd let him be the guinea pig...

Free receiver and car kit with a one-year prepaid subscription ($150 value) and then bought the boombox at JR for $80...

Stern's site now has a free 3-month extension if you prepay for 12 months, if anyone's interested

18. Make sure its mounted well in car... Mine broke twice.
The wires are very very delicate and the mount gets hot. This caused the wires come loose very easily if stepped on or accidently pulled. (they should be secure in the back and the mount is iffy at best)I broke two of them and am loathed to buy another (50 bucks twice so far) But I listen to the boom box all the time, and I miss it in the car, but don't want to waste any more money on the poorly design automount.

19. Thanks. I found the car mount to be a nicely engineered piece
Perhaps they've modified the design. I'll find out soon enough.
