i love tile
and stone. marble, slate, travertine, quartz. i spent the day today tiling my new bathroom. i had a contractor do most of the work, but i love tile, so i am doing that part myself.
since i am tiling all the way to the ceiling, i wanted to do a few things to break it up. so i did a border around the bottom of tumbled marble. a row of 4 x 4, then a row of 8 x 8. then the rest of the wall will be 8 x 8 porcelain, which are thinner. so it's like baseboard, kinda.
the tub surround is a mosaic of stone and tile, some bits and pieces from other rooms that i have already done, including a mosaic backsplash in the kitchen. i have a regular collection of different colors and textures.
i will do a border around the top of a row of tiles turned diagonally.
i hate squeezing out the time and energy to do these kind of projects, but i am always tired and happy when they are done.
it's always great to do things that stay done.

2. Sounds very nice.
I tiled 2 bathrooms last year, one i did in a cobblestone pattern in my daughters bathroom and then i did mine in 12x12 slate with a 4x4 accent tumbled marble in beige. Lots of sealer later i thought it came out quite well. I have about 300sf of glass mosaic tile right now that i got when i worked at the expo many years ago and i still haven't used. We are moving in about 6-9 months so i'm hoping to use it at the next house.

4. planning to tile my kitchen/family room floor, countertops and
backsplash when I get the cabinets rearranged.

Must co-ordinate w/my large brick fireplace wall, which is sort of terracotta shades of old Chicago brick.

I love tile too.

I am going to a party this weekend at a friend's house..she and her husband tiled the entire house, living room, bedrooms, everything. I am quite excited to see it.

My countertop plan involves large (12x12 or larger) tiles with a very slick surface turned on the diagonal, with tiny grout. Probably white or off white with a very colorful edge and trim, with accents of the trim color in the backsplash. The bigger the tiles, the less grout you have to use.

I want to lay the floor in one color, using 16 x 16 and smaller sizes together in a slate type pattern, which will bring out any shading variations in the tiles themselves. For this reason, I am going to have a contractor lay the floor, as it will involve more skill than I have.

Doing things in stages anyway; depending on which appliance dies first to dictate where I begin. LOL

congratulations on a project completed, and do post up some photos soon!!!!!

5. Yes, show pics
tile is great. If I ever can afford it, I want to redo the Kitchen in rustica. I had problems with it in a shower, couldn't get the soap stains off, but then maybe it was that water, it was full of minerals.
