Japanese Cuisine
Apparently I can't post on the DU Cooking & Baking forum as I'm not a "donor", (wondering just which of my four children I could donate to fit the bill).

Anyway, I just made a slew of Okonomiyaki but I can't find the sauce that must go with it in any of my local stores.

Any of you familiar with Japanese cuisine? Better yet, any of you of Japanese descent that happen to cook?

Thanks in advance.

Saffy

1. Is it the dashinomoto that you're missing ....
or a complete sauce. .. . I wonder if it would be ok if you just used mayo and soya sauce without the dashinomoto?

2. Apparently, It's Not That Difficult
Okonomiyaki Sauce

Ingredients:
1/4 cup ketchup
1 1/2 Tbsp. worcestershire sauce
1/4 tsp. dijon mustard
2 Tbsp. rice wine
1 tsp. soy sauce

Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan and heat until bubbly. Simmer about 30 seconds more, stirring constantly. Remove from heat.

It is also acceptable to use mayonaisse.

(PS -- I did not know this beforehand. I asked a Japanese person and used Yahoo search.)

3. Actually, most okonomiyaki restaurants serve it with
both a top glaze of sauce and a dollop of mayonnaise.

4. Thank you, ribofunk!
Yep. I just whipped up your recipe and it tastes exactly like the sauce my ex-roommate used. Thanks.

She also served it with mayo as an option, but I can't stand mayo as a condiment...only as a well hidden ingredient.
