Time travel! You can go back in time and see....
Seems like the Lounge is lively tonight, so let me ask something I asked in another forum. Ok, you have the "power" to travel back in time as a "ghost." What 5 events would you see? You cannot interfere with the time line, only observe. What would you want to see?

1. Who the real Jack the Ripper was!
2. Who really assassinated JFK!
3. Watch the construction of Stonehenge.
4. After Shrub got on AF1, hear his conversations following 9-11!
5. Watch the Salem Witch Trials!

And you?!

2. Construction of the Pyramids
3. Construction of any major Gothic Cathedral
4. Coronation of Elizabeth I of England
5. Rove planning the theft of this election (with a tape recorder of course...or would that be too close to alteration...??)
6. Hear Lincoln give the Gettysburg Address

4. Well, I suspect I'm a bit less practical than you are.
Edited on Sun Nov-28-04 01:01 AM by Sirveri
D'oh, can't edit the past, must go as a ghost. well that makes stuff a lot less interesting.

1. Go back in time and talk to Jesus for a bit.
2. Go back in time and talk to the founding fathers about what is going on right now, income taxes, and a bunch of other things.
3. Try and stop the blood sacrifice of Gilgal
4. Go to Germany in December 1939 and tell some random low ranking person everything that was going to happen and see what happens. (Note: My name is David Bernstein, yes I do have a f'd up martyr complex.)
5. Try and prevent 9-11 and see if Shrub would still have had support to go into Iraq.

14. Question
What is the "blood sacrifice of Gilgal?" I googled it and it kept taking me to scary right-wing sites with no real explanation of what it is. Would you mind educating me? :) Thanks!

17. you don't really want to know.
It has a lot to do with ancient Judaic history. Basically it was a religious turning point in Judaism where they turned from sacrifice to obediance, or at least simply abandoned obediance. Some could argue that at this point Judaism was tainted by another force, but I'm a bit too agnostic to buy into that line.

31. To answer your #4...
Go to Germany in December 1939 and tell some random low ranking person everything that was going to happen and see what happens.

Most likely, the person would tell you to stop being so alarmist (along, of course, with pretending you had come from the future), and that "nothing like what you are describing could ever happen here!"

7. ok....
1) How the dinosaurs died...I mean the asteroid theory prevails of course, but there are people that say it was like a nuclear winter afterwards and others that mention that there were large sulfur deposits where the asteroid hit - in effect this created large chemical reactions with the heat of the explosion kicking up sulfuric acid storms all over the earth...maybe the dinosaurs died very quickly after the impact. I would like to know.

2) I'd like to settle the whole Jesus issue once and for all. I do believe he was a real person - not too many dispute that. I am therefore very curious over the absolute most influential man of the last two thousand years even though I hate religion.

3) I would like to see the Maya/Inca in their glory days - this should really count as two since they are about 800 years and a couple thousand miles apart - but let me slide on this one.

4) The Ch'in dynasty in China has always fascinated me.

5) Since yuou got Stonehenge covered, I will check on the pyramids and we can compare notes.

11. First stop, Abraham Lincoln
I LOVE Lincoln, can't get enough of him. So my first would be to see what the hell happened that night at Ford's Theatre. Why no guard? Why was that note left for Johnson? Was it a single guy or a conspiracy.

Does each thing count seperately? Because I would love to hear his Farewell Address, Gettysburg, Second Inaugural, and speech on the Spot Resolution. I could pick if I had to though.

I'd like to see Ben Franklin. Such a fascinating character, I would love to see him work.
I would love to see scenes from the Revolutionary period. It would be amazing to see a new country be formed.
And finally, I would like to see the seven wonders of the ancient world (assuming they were all real).

27. Here's mine
1. Sit in the the school depository on the day JFK was assassinated....follow Oswald around for a while.

2. Greece...in general. I love ancient times and the Greek have always fascinated me.

3. Catherine the Great....would have loved to be a part of her court....girl power and all.

4. See my "gunslinger" ancestor and follow him around. The family story is that he came home and found his wife in bed w/ someone and killed them both. He got to Oklahoma, married a young woman, changed his name and moved to Atkins, Arkansas.

5. Meet my ancestors on the other side of the family. Another family story involves a relative who married a young, Indian Princess. We've found evidence of the princess in the log of those who traveled on the Trail of Tears. We know her age and her father's name, but cannot find any other information on him except his name.

I think the last 2, for me, would be the best...any rules about leaving clues to be found for later on?!

35. Sorry, but I'd have to check out the crucifixion first.
I'd have to make my very first stop in the Way-Back Machine the Crucifixion of Jesus and check out my theory that a real nasty T-storm kicked up right after the Robe fell on Richard Burton and Mel Gibson sang 'I Love a Parade.'

Actually, I might make my first stop in the TARDIS about 33 years earlier than that in Bethlehem. I'd have to hunt down that bar that Joseph was hanging out at, trying to explain to his drinkin' buddies just how it happened that his wife got pregnant when he was up in Galilee for 6 months on that deck project for Herod's hunting lodge.
