OK I have an adult female Cairn-type terrier at my place.

She's been fed, watered, has achew toy, peed and done the other (outdoors) and she ran my ass off. What do I do next? (Tomorrow I am making the calls, taking her to my old vet's to see if they recognise her, scan her for a chip)

1. If you have a digital camera, take a picture
make some homemade flyers and post around the neighborhood.

5. Yes, her owners should do that.
And the point about false claims is a good one.

7. Well I'm hoping that she is a patient at the vet's in the hood
that would be the easiest.

11. I took her for a run
actually, she took ME for a run. Full of aplomb. very calm about the whole thing. I may want to hang on to her as a weight-loss program.:) She does NOT walk!

10. She's a sweetie.
peed on my floor but no biggie. Now I have this warm little bod jammed up next to mine.

I need to make coffee, but I don't want to disturb her.

She's probably making her real mom and dad NUTS!
