when did vh-1 become "The Reminiscence Channel"?

i was around cable when i visited my family for thanksgiving and, i swear, every show on that channel is clips of the past followed by unfunny comedians and b-list celebrities commenting on them.

i remember frank zappa once said that the human race would go extinct because of 'death by nostalgia' when we reach the point when we can't take a step without feeling sentimental and needing to look back fondly one the step we just took.

i think we're almost there.

...are those B-list celebrities mouthing off about stuff they know nothing about. I find the "I Love the '70s, '80s" shows mildly entertaining because they bring back songs, people, etc., that I had forgotten about, and sometimes it's fun to just sit back and reminisce, especially if your kid is also in the room and you have to explain just why KC and the Sunshine Band were so hot back in 1975.

Then you get some smartass who wasn't even around during the decade in question mocking it all.

The dude who most annoys me is an actor from "Ed"...Michael Ian Black, I think his name is.

Quite frankly, I'd be happier if both VH-1 and MTV got back to their music video roots.

MTV Networks has a "music video" channel that rarely plays music videos and a "video hits" channel that airs everything but video hits! :eyes:

The nostalgia specials are overkill. They take a fond look back at everything, even things that happened recently, LOL! The most ridiculous special was the one about "The Least Metal Moments". They were supposed to be commenting on the lowest points in heavy metal history, but some of their choices were just plain stupid.

They actually bitched that the success of the pretty boy band, Nelson, signaled the death of heavy metal. :shrug: Come on guys ... NELSON?!? :wtf: When I think of heavy metal, Nelson is not one of the bands that pop into my head, LOL! You wanna bitch about Lemmy writing an advice column, James Hetfield cutting his hair or Headbanger's Ball being cancelled, fine. But any discussion of heavy metal should never, EVER, under any circumstances include Nelson! :spank:

Nelson, metal, no. I do like some of the shows that VH1 has on, but then again, I like a little music on my music chanels every now and again....without having to stay up until 3 am for insomniac music theater. :shrug:
