I've been more and more down reading the news and seeing this country go down the tubes. Last night I had the urge to once again research French real estate. As I surfed around, I came upon a village called Nyons, in Provence. Well, I open up their site and there it is: "Terre de Lumiere."
This may not mean much to anyone else, but my last name, although Italian, is really French. The French were down in Sicily, where my father's side comes from, so the name has the Italinate ending. But make no mistake, the name is from the French, lumiere. I have fond memories of Japanese tourists asking to take my picture at Napoleon's tomb because they thought I was a local, LOL.
So, I'm reflecting on getting my French back up to snuff, remembering how about 20 years ago I stood on line for hours at the French embassy in London trying to figure out a way to get into somewhere legally.....
Today I go out with Slicker for a walk and run into a lady I've seen a couple of times with a dog. An older woman.....turns out her name is Paulette, she is FRENCH, lives with a son-in-law now who is RW...she is afraid to tell people she's French, also spent time in NJ in the area I also lived....thinks the US is NUTS....and I almost hugged her I was so happy to meet her!!! Irony is, I asked her where she was from because it wasn't a Spanish accent (I'm here in NM) and she told me ...so for some reason she wasn't afraid of me...and the conversation ensued....
Anyway, I feel like I have received some sort of sign....I know, it's like grasping at straws, but I will be seeing her again....it will be so refreshing!!!!!
