My dog just did the damnedest thing...
Edited on Mon Nov-29-04 07:03 PM by Padraig18
I just got home around 5:15, and had a load of groceries to get put away. I did that, and was going to start making suppper straight off, but Grover came in and gently but insistently started tugging at my pant leg, pulling me in the direction of the living room. I made him stop and went back to doing what I was doing, and he did it AGAIN, so this time I gave in and went into the living room, which is where he went when he let go. He hopped up on the couch and looked at me, all the while holding his tug toy and wagging his tail, so I sat down next to him. He rolled over, exposing his tummy, and I proceeded to give him (and Brody, who joined us) tummy rubs for about 10 minutes.

I got up and went back to cooking and, apparently satisfied, Grover remained on the couch, happily gnawing his tug toy.

Hmmmmmm....

2. My roommate's pit bul just LOVES belly rubs!
She's not as tenacious about it as your dog is, but it's not at all unusual for Mystique to roll over onto her back, stick her legs up in the air, and wag her tail maniacally until either I or my roommate rub her belly or until Mystique gives up and gets back on her feet.

9. When I was a kid my dad told me not to rub the dog's belly...
...cuz it would make him gay.

I kid you not. It's a wonder I have a brain at all, coming from that man's genes.

25. Odd. The Cubans say...
... that rubbing a dog's tummy will bring you good luck. Must be a cultural thing.

13. He's a sweet baby.
Even our cat likes him, and Sid doesn't like too many people, even.

5. awwww
My "no breed rescue" will do just about anything for tummy rubs. My cat on the other hand will just jump on me when she is ready for cuddles.

6. Well, your dog just learned a new way to train you
My dog recently figured out a foolproof way to wake me up. She just puts her paw on my face. Damnit, it works every time.. and there's nothing I can do about it.

11. My dog, a golden retriever
took a crap in the kitty litter box the other day.

She usually just uses it as a source of snack food so this was quite unusual.

16. They can be
so damned smart sometimes. What kind of doggie is Grover? I had one that looked exactly like him (part Belgian Tuveren or something like that, he was a mix), I almost cried when I first saw the picture. He is a real beauty, what a cute face, makes me smile all over. And then there is Brody. What can you say? Can they get any cuter?

20. We don't know what he is, exactly.
The vet thinks Chow, Golden retriever and something (or several somethings) else. Yeah, Brody is the one with the 100-watt charm.

run in, give me look over their shoulders, then I have to get up, follow and either 1) rub Tico's belly 2) put him up on my mother's lap or 3) tuck them in on their beds under their baby blankets.

About 15 minutes later, one or the other or both come in and the whole thing starts over again. This happens about 5 time before I get ticked off!!

In the meantime, Slicker the min pin makes the occasional entrance but doesn't demand anything. Usually he relaxes until he thinks it's time to go to bed. He usually sleeps on the chair in my bedroom until he wakes up again and pretty much insists I go to bed. I tuck him in on my bed and then I have to carefully get into bed later because he usually is taking up my space by this time.....

I found a little plaque at the animal santuary's thrift store:

"This house is maintained entirely for the comfort and convenience of our dogs."

How true!

22. Reminds me of my moms dogs..
.. 3 Dachshunds - who demand that I give each of them a tummy rub whenever I stop by their place. They will simply jump up and down me until I give them their tummy rub, at which point they will run back to the fireplace and proceed to take a nap :D

24. Our Corgi has me trained well
(and she really is Mrs. zbd's dog - honest).

I get home and let her out (the dog, you ninny!). I go to our mailbox (across the street from our driveway). The dog does her business as I do that. Then she beats me back to the porch where I have to take out her ball and throw it several times before she is content.

She does try to "drive-by" so that she can get a head start on the ball, but I insist that she drop it on the step before I will throw it. I don't like getting up off my fat arse and walking the two feet to pick it up. If she wants me to throw it, she has to get it to me.

I really really really wanted to name the dog Dammit. "Come her, dammit!" "Dammit, quit barking!" "Dammit, put that down!" . . .

26. Corgi's are AWESOME dogs!
My Gran has one, and they are the SMARTEST (and most stubborn) dogs I've ever met. Gotta love that 'Mae West wiggle', too!

28. It may be pride to say that they are the smartest, and Mrs. ZBD says
that if you work with a dog enough, almost any one will be smart (but that wasn't true with my uncle's lab, Jack - dumb as a brick - amazing for a lab!).

But, she seems quite intelligent to me, and I'm comfortable with that.
