Mountain neighbor spots black panther.
I spotted one a year ago, almost to the day. It was a sleek, black cat at about 100 pounds (estimate). My mountain neighbor (a retired NASA rocket scientist) was hiking Saturday and saw the big black cat at a nearby waterfall. He estimated it as a 100# cat.

1. thanks for the pic
I was envisioning that the neighbor walked into a timewarp and wound up in an Oakland apartment in the late sixties...

4. That's why I dug up the cat picture.
Last year, after I sighted the black panther and posted here about it, the thread bogged down with pictures of the political "Black Panthers."

7. It is here ...
And it is dear. I'm looking into a preservation foundation to protect this cat from GWB. I am in a national forest that GWB wants to open to clear-cut logging. Just like the robber barons did here in the early 1900's. In fact, it was the bounty hunters hired by the robber Barron's that decimated the panther population in these beautiful mountains.

13. Yeah, right wing Christians suck
The whole rape and pillage the earth syndrome, because God gave us dominion over the earth. It's sad.

6. Saw a cougar once.
Out for a drive in the beautiful hills surrounding Roseberg, Oregon. It was coming out of the grass while I was coming around a curve. It leaped back in as soon as it saw me and vanished. I consider myself pretty lucky. Very few people get to see these animals without going to a zoo.
