Sad night. I have the oboe out.
It really sounds good in the gorge. I am running scales and playing from Vade Mecum. Nothing like a good reed.

24. I am so sorry for your loss.
Pachelbel's Canon was very appropriate at such a time.

How old was she? And did she go peacefully?

15. Because of the war.
War makes me sad. I did one. Vietnam. I flew 250 combat missions. Laos at night. Ho Chi Mihn Trail. I have never gotten over it. Sorry. Understand? I dream it every night.

20. I know.....in my way... I wasn't there, of course.
But my guy is a VN vet, 82nd Airborne, and cannot talk about what he did there. Even to me. He feels the same way about this frigging war as you do. And he still has the damn nightmares.

All the way, sir!

I entertained the 82nd in the Dominican Republic during the revolution there in 1965.

30. My guy was in VN around 1966.
Extremely bad memories. He graduated from high school in 1965, so you didn't get to entertain him. I am certain he would have remembered....

Air show?

6. Ok.
That thread title ranks right up there, in spontaneous humor, with the one that said "Fuck the Amish. They can't read this anyway!"

(Bonus points if anyone remembers who posted that.)

Anyway, I apologize if you really did mean it's a sad night, but "Sad night. I have the oboe out" nearly made me choke on my Diet Coke.

Being a clarinet player I can affirm that there IS nothing better than a good reed. Sorry you are sad.

25. You know, I was talking
to an oboist just the other day during one of our breaks and he told me that he had recently switched to buying reeds. I was shocked since that has been rare.

Nothing like music to help you either feel better or get in touch with the things that need to come out. Good luck to you, I hope it helps tonight.

14. I'm an oboist from Texas, too
Small world. I just had a carpool conversation with a woman who, it turns out, was also a high school oboist. I haven't played in years, having sold my horn out of necessity when I was an impoverished single mother. (This is sounding like The Gift of the Magi!)

Anyway, I miss playing. Wish I was there to hear it. *sigh*

I'm sad, too, by the way. My old kitty is dying. I left him behind in Texas when I moved to Oregon over the summer. He was too old and frail to make the trip. At 19, he had a great life. He's with my dad now, out in the country. He fell asleep in the sunshine yesterday and won't wake up. We think he's comatose. Just a matter of time. It seems the sadness is going around.

Hugs to everyone.

RV

Too sad for words. I put the oboe back in the box and cranked up the stereo. I am listening to "Judus Macabeaus" by Handel. Too good. Too pure!

35. I'm very sad, for sure
Edited on Mon Nov-29-04 11:17 PM by Red_Viking
I'm comforted by the fact that he lived so long, I had him almost every day of his life, and he's not suffering. And, he got to spend several months hanging out by Lake Travis with my dad.

Maybe some nice music would help. Sounds like a good plan.

RV

PS--I meant to say earlier, thanks for your service. You are a true patriot and I admire you greatly.

16. Sorry you are sad, DemoTex
When my 12-yr-old had her testing for band, she was matched with the oboe. The second choice was cornet. Since we had one of those on hand, we went with her second choice. If she sticks with it, we plan to let her switch to oboe her freshman year.

I bet you, the oboe and the new reed sound wonderful. :)
