AOL is getting on my nerves. Can someone here help me?
I have AOL, which I use strictly for it's AOL radio. My web access is through the local cable comapny. Anyway, about two weeks ago suddenly I could not get AOL radio anymore. I can log on without difficulty, and all other AOL functions seem to work just fine for me, but the damn radio box won't pop-up. If it does pop up I just get a white box with the words "Page Not Found" in it.

I was on the phone twice with AOL "Customer Service". To make a long story short, it accomplished nothing. They did suggest to me that maybe my Zone Alarm Firewall was causing the problem. This seemed strange given that I was able to get AOL radio without any problem for over a year with that same Firewall. Still, tonight I dumped by Zone Alarm Firewall and activated my Windows Service Pack 2 Firewall instead.

I get back into AOL and the problem is still not solved.

Uggh! Any suggestions?

1. Have you shown up at their board meeting yet?
I saw a lady on television who did that -- seemed like they were more than willing to give her whatever she wanted.

2. Doe it rin on a specific port?
Check and see if that port is being blocked somewhere.

I suspect that AOHell being AOHell, they have changed something.

Try Winamp. It's free. The Streaming stuff rocks.

3. Dump AOL
They always blame ZA. and ZA always disavows any knowledge.

You'll find some other radio.

One thing you could do if you haven't already, uninstall and reinstall AOL. I've done that and that's straightened shit out

5. It is a web based interface.
Meaning it works like a web page. You should try clearing cookies, temp internet files. You can always try upgrading. I also use the AOL radio more than any other feature besides email.

6. I'm in Customer Tech Support for a company with Web access
to many of our products, and we officially recommend any ISP other than AOL. AOL is not a true ISP. Worse, the AOL programs change your Windows shared library files (.dll files) and make it difficult for any other true ISP program to work properly unless the changes are undone. Of course, AOL won't tell you how to undo the damage they have done (would you?), but most other companies have figured out what they have done and can undo the damage. Personally, I swear by Earthlink. For cheaper alternatives, check out PeoplePC (also Earthlink, but cheaper), Juno, and NetZero. I tried them all, and they were all better than AOL. I went back to Earthlink just because I like Outlook for email and all of these use Web email.
But dump AOL. As long as you find ANY internet provider that can undo the damage that AOL has done to your computer, trust me, you'll like them better!

7. PS, you'll get a lot MORE radio stations
Edited on Mon Nov-29-04 11:11 PM by johnaries
aside from the "AOL Approved" stations. AOL actually filters the stations you can receive and the websites you can access.

8. Dump AOL.
They are bogus. Plus, at least half of the people on the internet who see you with an aol.com email address think that you are stupid. Reason enough.

9. There are reasons to question their intelligence
Did you ever see the results of some of AOLs political polls? Horrifying. :scared:

10. UPDATE: It looks like it's fixed
Suddenly the radio is working again. It seems as if it's a different radio box than the old one. Anyway, I learned a lesson about AOL customer service, and if I have to depend on them for anything again, I will likely just leave AOL.
